Billings is one of my favorite places in the world, however I will admit that the tourist activities can be limited. I have gone ahead and included my family's and my favorite spots in town, as well as a few places a short drive away.
For those of you who want a true Montana breakfast head to Pays Cafe, which is located in the Public Auction Yards (where they auction cows). This little diner serves breakfast from 6 am - 2 pm, you are very likely to run into my Dad, but only if you arrive at 6 am. Full disclosure, the coffee is nearly inedible, but the ambience is fun and the people are great. As a fun tidbit, this auction yard was where I bought my first cows with my dad.
Located conveniently in the Northern Hotel, Bernie's has a delicious breakfast, I am a big fan of the pancakes. If you are really looking for a sugar rush try their Vacation Breakfast (a chocolate milkshake with a slice of cake).
Located throughout Billings, this is Montana's own coffee chain.
Montana Brewing Company is great for lunch, they also home make their root beer, which is my favorite.
This is a great place to grab a steak if you are in the mood, either for lunch or dinner.
A cute restaurant for lunch or dinner at the base of the rims, with a great patio.
If you like ciders and light bites, this will be your place.
About a 45 minute drive from Billings, Red Lodge is a cute little mountain town at the base of the Beartooth Pass. If you go, make sure to stop by the Red Lodge Candy Store!
A store that has everything, from a ferris wheel to homegoods.
Take this with a grain of salt, as the last time I really went out in Billings was when I was in college, but these were the places back then.
A family favorite to get taco pizza and our family favorite drink, an Orange Crush.
A very popular brewery in town, only really has beer, but a Billings favorite.
A dive bar that has country dancing.
The diviest of dive bars, but offers Karaoke every night of the week.
