David and Dani’s first meeting was a classic modern love story:

1. Boy swipes right on girl

2. Girl swipes right on boy

3. Girl sends first message

4. Boy responds positively but says he can’t see her for a week

5. Girl assumes that she’ll never hear from boy again

6. Boy reaches out

7. Girl is over an hour late to their first date but apologizes profusely

David was enchanted by Dani’s first message and the $5 Old Fashioned happy hour special. Dani was delighted that she still had a date after being an hour late. The whole night rushed by as they stayed up late chatting and sharing stories. While neither one of them can tell you what they talked about on their first date, they both knew it was special from the second they met. David taught Dani to ski, despite swearing he wouldn’t. Dani continues to mock David for accidentally implying that psychology isn’t a “real” science. They spend the winters skiing, the summers hiking, and the weekends in between at every happy hour special they can find.

In June of 2024, David and Dani planned a trip to Mexico City and Spain. One day, while in San Sebastian, Spain, they were headed to their hotel to wrap up the night and celebrate Shabbat. On the way they saw a beautiful sunset and stopped to check it out. A few local teenagers joined them and David asked them to take a few pictures before getting down on one knee and asking Dani to marry him. She, of course, said yes.
