Derek Martin
Derek Martin - Groomsman
Well my brother from the same mother, brocatho, bro montana, bro beans, broseif, or just Derek I guess. I met Derek when I was a very hungry 1.5 year old trying to bite his arm off. He always knew how to grind my gears, whether it be leaving a quarter cup of juice, milk, or water in the fridge, he did it regardless of the consequences. I must say he is a guy that always has my back through thick and thin. We broke countless windows in the house and garage playing but neither one of us would tell dad who did it! I think we eventually caught on that punishment from dad was worse then from each other. One time while doing homework (yes... homework) in my room and something shattered my bedroom window. I looked outside the window and saw Derek standing outside - "I was trying to master my around the world with my yo-yo".
Jessalyn Holodinsky
Jessalyn Holodinsky - Bridesmaid
I first met Jessalyn at a mutual friend's 18th birthday where we spent the entire night dancing to 90's rap music and drinking Smirnoff coolers. Over the last 10+ years, the Smirnoff coolers turned into monthly Tuesday Bellini nights at Earls and now to monthly wine nights. In June 2016, I moved in with Jessalyn and we became roommates for the next year, eating way too many blocks of cheese and drinking an abundance amount of wine. This is also the first Christmas I learnt how many ornaments truly can be hanging off a tree - "if there's a branch, there needs to be an ornament". Thank you for introducing me to Smirnoff, Bellini's, and now a wide variety of wine choices. I can't wait until you move back from Toronto next fall after you're done your post doctoral fellowship!
Joel Bemben
Joel Bemben - Groomsman
My twin, well not actually but we were often mistaken during middle school for each other. I think I spent my most time with Joel out in Thunder Bay walking home from school everyday, playing hockey together, and spending time at Grandma and Grandpa's camp at Shebandewan. I always remember the countless hours we spent out at the Holly Crescent park, playing flag football which quickly turned into tackle, outdoor hockey strapping on the pads, and games of kick the can. We always managed to get the sleds stuck in the pits, catching fish in Lilly, and ice fishing on any lake Peter would scout out for the crew. I've always enjoyed spending New Years at Shebandewan and the boot hockey league cup. From clinking our shot glasses to 11:42, 11:43, and so on because we ran out of things to cheers on to wrecking our bodies on the Medicine Hat Water Park slides.
Johnny Pechiwa
Johnny Pechiwa - Groomsman
My birth brother; we're so close he was at the hospital when I was born. I have many memories of Johnny and I out at Sandstone; from fishing trips, to sleeping in the bunk house, to ripping the GT's, to soaking up the sauna. I still remember when we thought it was a good idea to fill our lucky charms up with beer and beating up the younger brothers in your basement playing mini sticks and getting thrown through your parents wall by Derek. I'll never forget the time you came out here for your first Stampede and Mathias's arm got stuck in the door on the C-Train. Thanks for spending time with me over the years in the Italian Stallion's basement, biking with the Kekabeka crew, and listening to Sandra's vaccuming rants at 3am. We've enjoyed the Warped Tour, Ignace for long weekends, and singing karaoke to the whole Queen soundtrack from Ignace to Calgary. Even though we live so far away, we always catch up as if I never left.
Nicki Martin
Nicki Martin - Bridesmaid
I first met Nicki when I started dating Curtis in 2015 as she is married to the other Martin brother, Derek. Over the last five years, we have laughed, cried, and participated in many bocce ball games together. We've spent some amazing long weekends down in Montana together, 20+ hours in a motor home travelling to Souris for Grandma and Grandpa's anniversary, and out to Thunder Bay for several family weddings - "just a fart in the wind!" You're the best fur auntie to Moosey and an amazing nurse to share patient stories with. I'm so happy how close we've gotten over the last five years; not only did I gain a best friend, but now a sister! I can't wait to see what happens for us in the future! PS - thank you for always taking shots of Sambucca with me.
Sam March
Sam March - Bridesmaid
I first met Sam on her first day as a Personal Trainer at GoodLife Fitness where she walked up to the front desk where I was working and said "Hi, I'm Sam and I work here now", then walked away and I thought to myself "Yeah, I'll be friends with her". Since then, there hasn't been a season of the Bachelorette/Bachelor or Bachelor in Paradise that has gone unseen between us. We've spent so many birthdays, Thanksgiving's, and Christmas's together that you've become a part of my family and I am so thankful for that! You're definitely the glue that holds me together, even if it takes a bit of crazy glue. Thank you for always being down for whatever random idea I have and supporting my wild dreams!
Mitchell Banister
Mitchell Banister - Groomsman
Well what can I say... I guess it all started when I saw him burning rubber in his old red mustang in Grade 12. From heckling school yard fights, burning donuts after hockey practice, having team picture races at BP's, spending epic weekends at Mara Lake passing out in the hottub by 4pm after I thought I could drink 4 full pitches of beer in 2 hours to calling random people at 4am for tickets to the Brier. I've always enjoyed wearing funny hats and trying to drink a beer a hole at Hyde mountain, taking Roughneck buses to Edmonton with you - "hey girls where the party at". I will always remember our crazy mini van ride in San Diego with the boys, I mistakenly took a wrong turn into 5 guns pointed directly at us - "sorry boys took a wrong turn, we're from Canada SORRY". We showed the American boys how to truly drink that trip!
Sara Hladun
Sara Hladun - Bridesmaid
I first met Sara when I moved to Calgary in 2005 and joined her Ringette team. Being the new girl in town and to the team, Sara was so friendly and welcoming to me and we instantly formed an amazing friendship. From her living in Calgary, Vancouver, Saskatoon, and now beautiful Bermuda... the distance between us has never hindered our friendship. I have so many amazing memories with Sara, from riding the bus together on Ringette on long road trips to surprising her in Saskatoon to celebrate her 25th birthday - that cupcake never stood a chance! This is also the same trip that was supposed to be kept "very cheap" and I ended up getting a $250 speeding ticket. Thanks for the weekends together out at your cabin at Wasa Lake to making gingerbread houses on Christmas Eve! You've been such an amazing friend throughout the years, from the growing pains of being teenagers and figuring out how eyeliner works to adulthood (and still not knowing how eyeliner works).
Rory Wilkowich
Rory Wilkowich - Groomsman
The Big Rig!! I first met Rory through hockey when I saw this kid wheeling his wheely bag around the rink with his platinum long blonde surfer hair. At first I wasn't to sure about him but boy was wrong! He quickly turned out to be one of the greatest people I know and one of my best friends. We spent a year in San Diego with countless memories, from gaming until 2am and our coach telling us we can no longer go to the beach because we were dragging our butts at practice to constantly getting told to eat more food at dinner time knowing we shouldn't of stopped at Mcdonald's on the way. We both got scouted to play in the NCAA and that lead us to the next chapter where we moved to Massachusetts to play for different university hockey teams. From keg races, to seeing a Sam Hunt concert, to trying to kill each other on the ice as we were enemies, we've had some unbelievable times together.
Tori O'Meara
Tori O'Meara - Bridesmaid
I first met Tori at a Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse game in January 2016 where I spent the entire game asking Tori a million questions about lacrosse to learn about the game but more so to learn about her and be her friend. Since that game, we have spent most long weekends down in Montana drinking champagne and Gatorade, driving to Target in Kalispell while the boys golf, and hitting up happy hour at Earls. I am so grateful for Tori and the time we spend together, whether that's golfing in banana suits and teeing off from tequila bottles or rippin' it up on the dance floor at Ranchmans. After I graduated nursing school two years ago, Tori helped me land my first job as a nurse. Last year, I got the honour of being one of Tori's bridesmaids when she married Patrick. We had such an amazing time in Scottsdale, Arizona for her bachelorette, dancing on tables, day drinking on bicycles, and twerking ping pong balls out of Kleenex boxes. Now I get to have the honour of having her be a part of my big day standing next to me!
Scotty Walters
Scotty Walters - Groomsman
Well this guy! I met Scotty in my Grade 12 year, playing hockey for our hometown in Okotoks. I've had so much fun over the years with you, from weekends in Montana where you took home an ambulance instead of a taxi, rolling tires down hills because it's the only way we can wheel anything; to loading all my school stuff into your car after my truck blew its tranny in Flint, Michigan. Oh, and hitting a bear in my truck travelling to school the year before that - "get your head out the sports illustrated bud". Our countless rips at Aussie Rules drinking buckets, our crazy nights at the Rivers Edge and Ranchmans, always ending up in different ends of the city. The classic circuit nights and lawn darts in your back yard. I always remember when my dad high sided the mini van in Regina, yelling at us to get out and check it out when all of us knew he could of got out himself. Of course you were the one to get out and we managed to borrow some salt bags and use it as a ramp to safely resume our trip home from our Survivor weekend out in Souris.
