As told by Andrew + the pups:
*Special shout out to Marcy Keifer Kennedy for the pre-work and set-up!
On September 5th 2022, Sydney’s owner left the house for work in the morning, and Sydney was told the owner would be back a bit later than normal that day. She was going to meet someone at something called “a coffee shop”. Sydney lamented her beloved owner’s delay, but time seemed to slip by faster than she thought as she slept in the sunlight. When the owner finally came home, Sydney ran up to her and wagged her curly Q tail, noticing the bright smile on her owner’s face.
On the same day, Roux was alerting the neighborhood to the cat that was walking the streets outside, and had also been told about this thing called a “coffee shop”. When Roux’s owner returned, he too, was glowing and gave a few extra-long pets that particular day. Roux didn’t ask questions, just enjoyed the pets. Several of these occurrences continued to happen for Roux and Sydney – a little longer time alone without their owners, but lots of extra love upon return.
One day, Roux’s owner loaded her up into his car and backed out of the driveway like they normally did when they went to that glorious place he calls a “dog park”. But instead, they ended up at someone else’s house. All of the smells were unfamiliar and when Roux and the owner went up to the door, there was an unfamiliar little tan dog barking at Roux.
At first, this Sydney was intimidated by Roux, but soon learned that the new dog was going to be coming around much more often. Sydney’s owner seemed to be happier and happier every time Roux came over and, despite Roux’s owner giving the best pets, Sydney got a little jealous of Roux. Then came the big day.
Sydney’s owner started packing up everything around the house. All of the things she used to make that delicious food, the things that Sydney loves to sleep on, and even her toys! They all got loaded up into a truck and taken away. Sydney’s owner took her too, loaded her up in the car, and took her to a new house that smelled just like Roux.
Roux was incredibly excited when the truck pulled up and Sydney’s owner stepped out. She has the best pointy things on her hands (the owners both call them “nails”) and they give the absolute best scratches. Roux welcomed Sydney and Sydney’s owner with lots of licks, sniffs, and, despite being told not to, a few jumps as well (she was just super excited).
In the years to come, Sydney and Roux became more than friends. They really came to love each other. They both think back to that day when things changed because of a thing called a “coffee shop”. The love they found is something neither of them imagined would happen to them in their lifetimes. They both feel so lucky to be in each other’s’ lives, and wouldn’t trade what they found for anything else in the world.
So Roux and Sydney want to thank you so much for helping them celebrate their love, and of course, their owners too.
