At the age of 20, Danielle was working at a supplement store called Herc's Nutrition in Guelph. Lucas, 19, stopped in quite frequently to get fresh protein shakes. As Luc stumbled into Herc's that one Sunday morning, he browsed the products that he'd hoped would make him more jacked than he already was. The girl at the front desk asked if he needed any help. To her defeat, he was just browsing and asked for a protein shake. He asked her what flavour she recommended. "My personal favourite is Butternut Crunch, and Rocky Road is a close second". "Butternut Crunch it is", Luc gently requested. He got his shake and went on his way, leaving Danielle feeling giddy.
The following Wednesday, Luc happened to return to Herc’s during the short hours that Danielle worked there, looking to buy something this time. Danielle went to offer support full well knowing that he probably knew much more about these products than she did. Luc explained that he needed a pre-workout with the checkmark appropriate for athletes as he played university football. Thinking he played for the Guelph Gryphons, Danielle followed store policy and gave him the 20% discount. Before she rang him in, he asked for another protein shake, this time the other flavour she suggested. “Rocky road was it?” Danielle, flushed with endearment, and having absolutely no business to give out freebies, replied “the shake is on the house”. She got his name to put in the system for his discount and later decided to look him up on Instagram. To her surprise, Luc didn’t play for the Gryphons, he played for the Waterloo Warriors and therefore didn’t qualify for the 20% discount. Danielle then found the courage to message him, explaining that he shouldn’t have gotten the discount. Luc promptly responded “it will be our little secret”.
The rest is history.
10 years to the day they met, they will be saying
yes to forever.
