Our story began in the 2016 spring semester at the University of Tulsa. I still remember the first time I saw Blake walk into our Physiology lecture hall and sit down in the front row so studiously. I clearly remember thinking “Who is that and how can I get to know him better?”
So, when I walked into the Physiology lab later that week, I was ecstatic to find this handsome stranger sitting alone at a lab table. I was nervous to introduce myself but leaned into a moment of bravery and sat down at his table. I had no idea how easily we would connect and become good friends. I had never experienced such ease with interactions and joyful moments. It didn’t matter if we were writing out a lab report, studying for exams, or just talking about our shared interests, we were happy and laughing non-stop. Our friendship was comfortable, easy, and always just a little more connected than we let on. We liked each other, but life had its own timing, and for a while, friendship was where it stayed.
Life took us in different directions for years. Both of us moved on to higher education after we graduated from TU. I had moved across the country to live in Maine for three years. We had drifted apart due to distance and busy lives, and we both spent time with other people. In my mind and heart, I always thought of Blake as the one that got away.
But I couldn’t deny the spark and longing I felt every time we connected again. We sometimes went months without contact, then a simple text connected us again like no time had passed. Then, in March of 2024, we truly found our way to each other. What started as a casual reconnection quickly felt like more. There was something familiar, but also new—like we were picking up right where we left off, but with a deeper sense of who we were and what we wanted. We quickly realized that the years we’d spent dancing around each other had come to an end, and that it was finally time to let ourselves fit together.
Since we started dating, we’ve shared countless moments that have shaped our relationship. I have loved finally getting to build a relationship grounded in friendship, trust, and a deep sense of knowing each other. We’ve grown together, supported each other through life’s changes, and somehow, it all still feels just as natural as it did from the start. I am so excited to share more moments of joy, challenge, and growth with my puzzle piece.

Joining Blake’s family has been one of the greatest gifts of this journey. From the very beginning, his parents and siblings have welcomed me with open arms, kindness, and so much warmth. It’s clear how deeply they care for each other, and I feel truly lucky to become part of such a loving, supportive family.
I’m excited not only to marry Blake but to build memories together with all of them — sharing holidays, celebrations, and everyday moments that will become part of our story. Their generosity and love make me feel at home, and I’m so grateful for the bond we’re creating as we move forward together.
Now we’re getting ready to celebrate our wedding with the people who’ve been part of our story along the way—and we can’t wait to share this moment with you. This day marks the joining of our hearts and our families, and we’re so grateful for your love, support, and presence as we begin this next chapter together.
With love,
Danielle
