Alyeska Aerial Tram

Picture of Alyeska Aerial Tram
1000 Arlberg Ave, Girdwood, Alaska

Take to the skies above the classic Hotel Alyeska in an aerial tram, soaring up to the summit of Mt. Alyeska to take in sweeping views of the Chugach Mountains. At the top, spend as much time as you'd like grabbing a bite to eat, admiring the scenery, or strolling along nature trails.

Make your way to the Alyeska Resort and step aboard the aerial tram to begin your ascent up into the heights of the Chugach Mountains. In the winter, the tram whisks skiers and snowboarders to the top of the resort in 3 minutes. In the summer, the ride slows down, giving you a full 7 minutes to gaze out over the landscape and admire the view.

Watch the hills for moose and bear among the trees and look out over miles of Alaskan wilderness to see hanging glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and the Turnagain Arm. Once you reach the top, you can spend as much time as you like exploring before catching the return tram back down. Find a hiking trail to get close to nature, relax over lunch or a sunset drink at the Bore Tide Deli & Bar, pick berries, and use the telescopes on the observation deck to zoom in on views of burbling streams and towering spruce.

Prince William Sound Cruise to Surprise Glacier

100 West Camp Road, Whittier, Alaska 99693

Admire an active tidewater glacier and see ice chunks ricocheting into the blue-green waters of Prince William Sound during an unforgettable cruise. Accompanied by a National Forest Ranger, cruise past Surprise Glacier and identify wildlife like eagles, whales, seals, sea lions, and sea otters.

Climb aboard a comfortable catamaran and depart from the Whittier Harbor into Passage Canal. Sail toward Harriman Fjord, and along the way, allow the resident National Forest Ranger to help identify curious sea otters and harbor seals darting through the aquamarine surf.

Cruise through Harriman Fjord toward Surprise Glacier, which many experts consider to be the most active tidewater glacier in all of Prince William Sound. This glacier is in the process of actively shearing ice floes that melt into the waters of the Alaskan Gulf.

During the course of the tour, motor in front of Surprise Glacier and witness its active calving process. Then, cruise back through Esther Passage en route to Whittier. Glide by a working salmon hatchery and visit a kittiwake rookery where black-legged kittiwakes nest on the rocky cliffs.
