The Beginning of Forever

Picture of The Beginning of Forever

Our love story started with one swiping right and the other swiping left. A digital crossroads, a missed connection—or so it seemed.

The Initial Mismatch
When Danny first saw Monicas profile, he was enchanted: her laughter captured in candid moments, her love for living life and love for travel were evident in her photos. Without hesitation, he swiped right. Monica, however, had a moment of doubt. She was attracted to his smile in photos - warm, genuine, and inviting as well as the love for his dogs. Focusing on his sales profession made her doubtful and unsure, so she swiped left. And just like that, their lives, which could have intersected, seemed to drift apart.

But what are algorithms, if one is not persistent? Days later, she received a message from Danny. Something about Danny’s kind gentleman approach to initiating a conversation caught her attention. As fate would have it, although she swiped left at first, she was intrigued to know more about him.

The Unexpected Match
Skeptical and hopeful all at once, Danny decided to message her. He was surprised when he saw Monica’s name pop up days later when she responded to his message. He had almost given up on the possibility of connecting with her. His opening line wasn’t a cliché pickup line or an overthought one-liner. Instead, he asked about places she traveled to referencing waterfall photos she had taken in Bali.

Monica’s response was quick and witty. That message led to another, and soon, they were deep in conversation—discussing everything from their favorite restaurants to their dream destinations. They discovered they had more in common than they’d expected: a shared love for live music, outdoor events, rooftop city views, and an unconventional sense of humor. Discovering their lives intertwined over the last 20+ years. Not to mention, Monica carries the same maiden last name as his mother. Not to worry, there was a check on ancestry.com!

The First Meeting
After a week of exchanging texts and voice notes, they decided to meet. Danny suggested a quaint chic dinner restaurant tucked away in a corner of the city. Monica, nervous but excited, agreed.

When they finally met, it was as though the world around them faded. Danny was just as warm and kind as his messages had suggested, and Monica’s laugh was even more infectious in person. They spent hours talking, laughing, sharing stories about their childhood mischief and their dreams for the future.

By the end of the day, Danny knew the spark he had felt online had only kindled into something brighter. And Monica, who had initially swiped left, found herself grateful for that second chance.

Overcoming Challenges
Like any love story, theirs wasn’t without its challenges. Danny’s work required frequent late nights, while Monica’s work required frequent travel and long hours. Balancing their budding relationship with their individual responsibilities wasn’t easy.

They learned to navigate the hurdles together, finding strength in their shared resilience and unwavering support.

A Love That Grew
Their relationship blossomed over time. Weekend events exploring the city, taking Mijo & Macy to dog parks, and countless hours spent cooking together became their love language. The once-digital connection transformed into a partnership built on trust, humor, and an unshakable bond.

The Moment of Forever
After a romantic rooftop Mana concert—a band that they both love— overlooking Houston downtown skyline, Danny knelt on one knee. With the city view as witnesses and a gentle breeze carrying his words, he asked Monica to be his forever. Tears streaming down her face, she said yes.

Today, they tell their story with humor: how one swiped right, the other swiped left, and yet, destiny found a way. Their journey is a testament to the idea that love doesn’t always follow the straight path. Sometimes, it takes a detour—a swipe left—before circling back to where it was always meant to be.
