L&J's: Known for its authentic and yummy Mexican food, it is El Paso's most famous restaurant! Also known as the "old place by the graveyard" since it shares its parking lot with a cemetery (where Billy The Kid happens to be buried in). Eat some of the best Mexican food while enjoying the pictures of famous celebrities and politicians who have visited and dined in themselves. Finding L & J's may be a bit confusing as it was once a speakeasy in 1927 but fear not, the food is worth the confusion. Reservations are highly recommended as wait times are known to be almost 2 hours.
The Franklin Mountains are so calm and peaceful. The range runs right through the city, dividing it from the east and west. The Aztec Cave trail is one of our favorites to hike and our first hike in El Paso we did together. It is a short hike but very steep so be prepared for a workout. If a hike does not fit your schedule or peak your interest, a drive through transmountain (where the state park is located) is just as beautiful with a few stop points for you park, step out of your car and bask in the scenery.
Given that Hotel Indigo is located in downtown EL Paso, just a few blocks from both the San Jacinto Plaza and The Plaza Theatre, we suggest talking a walk around the area. Although El Paso does not have an extensive downtown, it is rich in street art and history, making it a pleasant and manageable walk.
Our wedding ceremony will be taking place at a park near and below scenic drive. However if you want to enjoy the view of 2 countries at a higher altitude, we suggest visiting ahead of time or after the ceremony. Scenic drive is about a 5 minute drive from the hotel and is about 2 miles long. There are a couple stop points that allow you to park and step out of your vehicle to snap photos and enjoy the beauty.
One of the charms of El Paso, especially for first-time visitors, is the seamless blend with Juarez - it's a unique aspect we truly appreciate about the city.
