Our love story started 28 years ago. When I moved to Harvey as a 16-year-old girl, I was driving my mother’s van with my sister Deanna. The first thing that caught my attention was the blue puffer coat he was wearing. If you know me, you know blue is my favorite color, so that coat immediately drew me in. I told my sister, “I’m going to get him. He’s going to be my boyfriend.”

Months went by without seeing him again. Funny enough, I used to talk to his mom, Mrs. Brenda, on the Metra when I was going to school. I had no idea she was his mother!

But back to our love story.

A few months later, I was walking to my girlfriend Aris’s house, and guess who I ran into? You guessed it—Mr. Singleton. He was standing outside his friend’s house, and it was raining. He asked if he could get under my umbrella. Of course, as a 16-year-old girl, I was smiling and blushing.

We talked for a few minutes, and he gave me his phone number. It took me a few months to call him because of everything I was going through with my mom. After losing her, I needed someone to talk to, and he became my sounding board. He listened to me and was there during one of the most difficult times of my life.

Now back to this story. After months of getting to know each other and going on dates he became my man. We had a lot of our firsts together and now we will have all our lasts together. Over the years many would say why y'all not married yet
