Sometime in 2019, David and Alexis, having never met, decided to try their luck with online dating. Jaded by the available prospects in their own home towns of Detroit, MI and Nashville, TN respectively, David and Alexis had strikingly similar dating goals: Finding good energy in others, while prioritizing self-growth above all else. In retrospect, their dating app profiles must have synced when David visited Nashville in October 2019 for a Vanderbilt class reunion that he had pledged never to go to. Upon returning to Detroit, the two connected for and begin to chat, finding common ground in veganism and a deep-seeded admiration for the mega-rap conglomerate, Trill Entertainment. Their connection was immediate, genuine, in many ways hilarious, and most of all, easy.

After several weeks of texting and Facetiming, David mentioned an annual winter gala for a local non-profit organization that he was a board member of. Alexis – sweetly - invited herself. They closely planned a matching tuxedo and dress, and Alexis nervously flew to Detroit, to meet David for the first time in November of 2019. The two attended the gala, but also made time to see the sites and hear the Motown sounds of historic Detroit, Michigan. They enjoyed each other’s company so much that Alexis was David’s plus one (he asked her this time) to another event, this time a Florida wedding in January of 2020. They began to look forward to monthly trips and events, using the time to grow closer and for a few days take a break from the obligations of work and school. The future seemed bright – That is, until March of 2020, when everything changed.

The pandemic saw Alexis furloughed from her job in Nashville, while David thrust to the front lines of the city of Detroit’s Covid 19 response. Working 16 to 20 hours per day for the Detroit Health Department, David was in a high stress, high risk environment which also presented a very real physical danger. Interpreting David’s unspoken needs, Alexis’s warm and motherly instincts kicked in, and she jumped into action. She began to fly to Detroit almost every weekend on empty planes, just to clean, cook for and ensure that David was taken care of. What began to grow over the course of the next few months was a bond that was beyond the traumas of the past, the circumstances of the present, and any fears about the future. What began to grow, was a true love.

After two more years of laughter, growth, therapy, care and love, David proposed in June of 2022. The couple is excited to embark on this new and exciting adventure together, and are honored to share the occasion with all of you.
