David walked Stephanie to her car respectfully, no even going in for goodnight kiss, but instead asking her to do it again soon. As the pandemic rules were lifted, Stephanie finally landed her dream job in the music industry, while David decided to join the National Guard/Army. This decision worried Stephanie, but they agreed to make it work since it was one of David's dreams. He was away at boot camp for an entire summer and had no phone access, so he wrote a daily letter to Stephanie for 90 days. The last letter Stephanie received read, "I can't wait to marry you." Distance had made them grow fonder, wanting to continue choosing one another in the same way they had done so since 2018.

However, a plot twist occurred when Stephanie tested positive for COVID-19 the same week David had planned to propose, causing a delay in his plans. On December 30th, 2021, Stephanie finally tested negative. David used the occasion of celebrating her 30th birthday (on December 31st) as a perfect cover for his proposal. After a special dinner, he suggested going for a nightcap and stroll on the water in Fort Lauderdale Beach. David asked Stephanie if they could take a "selfie" using her phone. An odd request as he normally hid from photos but she happily took the picture. She felt David's heart beating rapidly with her hand and, to her surprise, he got down on one knee and asked the life-changing question. With an emphatic "yes," December 30th became a momentous day as they committed to spending their lives together.
