It all started with “I messed up, man.”
Rewind to the September of 2021... Katherine and David were attending Citizens Church in Plano and met in the same home group. As the group was getting to know each other David was talking about his relationship with God and the future. He used these words, “I’m ok with where the Lord will take me. Marriage or not, whatever job, wherever he has me…” After describing his "sureness" of his foreseeable singleness, he heard Katherine speak. He called a mentor of his and expressed his utter failure and was met with, “It’ll work itself out, man. Like you said, we’ll see what the Lord has in store.”
Kat and David got to know each other over the next few months and became good friends through good banter and perfect *seat saving* from David for her. In early March at the start of Lent, Kat and David began questioning, together, what the coming month would mean for them. Went for coffee, David asked her for a date, and she promptly said… “No.”
Alas, David stuck around. And so did Kat! A week later on March 9th David walked over to Katherine, sitting in Communion Coffee Shop, and asked her for dinner at Lockwood - she said yes! What a wonderful night. The food was incredible, conversation was better. He asked her for a 2nd date and she said! “No.”
That next Sunday David pulled out the big guns. His cooking. With the help of his family he whipped up bruschetta as an appetizer for Sunday Night Dinner with Kat’s roommates (those became a staple in their relationship). Throughout the evening, his quiet servant-heartedness was seen as he took out the trash and refilled Kat's drink. He met a couple of her friends and they all got along very well. He, sure enough, was the last one to leave after helping clean the dishes with Abby, Kat, & Emily. He began to catch Kat's attention. (Little did he know that he'd eventually be nicknamed the "house boyfriend.")
After a couple more times of hanging out - and one more date to a Roughriders game - over a couple more weeks, Kat and David sat outside of Native Coffee. Katherine leaned over and whispered, “Yes,” to David’s surprise. He replied with a cheeky grin, “I want you to say it.”
”Yes, I want to be your girlfriend.”
From there, they continued to date over a year and a half. David stopped coaching volleyball, Kat got a dog, and they got to know each other over the mundane of every day life as well.
Little did Kat know, David began designing and purchasing an engagement ring in September of 2022. When he picked it up in March of 2023 it took everything in him to not get on a knee then and there. They spent the summer continuing to serve at the church together and David began planning the engagement with his and her friends. On October 7, 2023 David and Kat met under a large tree in Lake Highlands and were engaged!
God is good.
Thank you to everyone who’s been involved in the building of our relationship- we wouldn’t be here without each one of you. We’re excited to celebrate the rest of our lives with y’all!
