Our Wedding

Our story together starts in Germany; however, the Lord was working to ensure that we would both be there at the same time. So many things fell into place perfectly so that David would catch a glimpse of Mandy in the gym on base in Baumholder. For starters, David was a part of the first group of Navy folks to deploy to Baumholder and Mandy felt the Lord had something for her in Germany. Mandy had hoped to be stationed in Landstuhl and David had hoped to deploy to Stuttgart. Towards the end of October, we were both settled in Germany and hitting the gym as often as we could. This led to the first time we both laid eyes on each other. David saw Mandy putting in work on a squat machine and he was immediately intrigued. Mandy also noticed David in the gym and knew she was going to get to know him but wasn't sure how. Fast forward a couple weeks and we both found ourselves at trivia night at the Rheinlander on base. As we were getting food, we were the only two people in that room and Mandy decided to introduce herself to David. It was a very short conversation and we both immediately forgot each other's names but we both knew we were interested (there was no denying that the spark was there). David spent the next few weeks trying to find out more about Mandy. All he got was her last name. On Dec 6, David and Mandy both decided to check out the bowling alley on base for the first time and David did not pass up the opportunity to talk to Mandy and learn more about her. Later that night, to Mandy's surprise, David showed up at the restaurant that Mandy told him she would be going to. This led to Mandy asking some questions and inviting David to the church on base. David said he would go but forgot to realize he was participating in the 18-mile Norwegian ruck that Sunday and would not be able to attend. The next time we crossed paths was that following Monday at the gym where David provided his alibi for his absence on Sunday. Fortunately, David hurt his foot and needed to get an x-ray and just so happened to know an x-ray technician named Mandy. On Tuesday, David surprised Mandy at work and his friend refused to let him leave without getting Mandy's phone number. Our interest in each other caused a somewhat awkward x-ray session and David leaving with Mandy's phone number. David saw Mandy in the gym the next 2 days and decided to ask her out over text. Mandy turned down David's offer but wanted to remain friends. A sad David took it in stride but continued the pursuit. One week later, an opportunity for a range day, hosted by the Army medical staff came up and David was hopeful that Mandy would be there. Mandy was completely unaware that David would show up to this range. Mandy was dressed in her conventional Army gear, when David showed up wearing a short sleeve t-shirt, and vans. The epitome of "coolness". David took the opportunity to talk to Mandy multiple times during the range which led Mandy's coworkers to come up to her and ask who these people were. This sparked conversation on David. Post range day, Mandy decided that she wanted to be more than friends, undenounced to David. Over the next two weeks, David and Mandy would get to know each other a little more over text. After returning from his ski trip on Friday, January 3rd, David saw Mandy in the gym once again. Mandy asked David for a spot for the sole purpose of getting to talk to him. Mandy left David speechless when she said, "I'm going to miss you when you leave Baumholder." She also texted him later that evening, "It was so good to see you." Confused, David's friends told him not to respond, however, he responded immediately. After church was cancelled that Sunday, Mandy invited David to do a bible study at the local coffee shop. Much to his surprise and relief, it was just the two of them. (Our first date!). On Wednesday, David invited Mandy to play Super Smash Bros with his friends. After all the friends left, Mandy stumbled through telling David she wished she never turned him down. From then on, David and Mandy were inseparable. We made the most of our remaining time together in Germany and have jumped on every opportunity to see each other since. Not even 4000 miles and the Atlantic Ocean could keep them apart.
