In Summer of 2015, David Hench and Blair Richards embarked upon a summer of serving God at Lake Luther summer camp in Angola Indiana. They were both expecting God to move over the summer, but neither of them expected Him to bring them towards their future spouse. When David first met Blair, he was instantly attracted to her servant heart, compassion, and strong conviction to follow Christ. Blair found David's outgoing personality, energy and passion for kids, and deep faith as attributes she wanted in a partner. Little did they know that by camp's end, this attraction would turn into something beautiful.
What came next was two hard but rewarding years of long distance. The drive was not optimal, but the the massively cliché saying “distance makes the heart grow fonder” proved to be true. They kept communication a priority, made four and a half hour drives monthly, and packed as much fun and excitement into those weekends as they could. Over the course of those years David and Blair grew as romantic partners, and best friends. They enjoyed the opportunities they got to hike together, explore new places to eat, and try new things. David agreed to go to house shows and watch HGTV as Blair went along with David's slight movie obsession. (This was their unspoken contract of sacrificial love.) But as the months went by, one thing became clear: they were in love, and neither of them wanted to spend the rest of their life with anyone else.
On June 23rd 2017 Blair drove to Angola, Indiana to meet David for a weekend at David's aunt and uncles lake cottage, not thinking twice that, it was at in the same town as the camp where they met. After lunch and a hike, Blair was a little surprised when David suggested they say, “hi,” to the staff at Lake Luther, but she went along with it. He then took her to the building where they had some of their first conversations, and they watched this video: Proposal Slideshow
As the video concluded, David got on one knee, asking Blair to marry him; you wouldn't be on this website if you didn't know what she said next (:
David and Blair are so honored and beyond excited that you have decided to experience and celebrate their marriage. To them, this day is not just about each other, but it is about recognizing what God has done in their personal lives and relationship with each other, and promising to center their marriage on Jesus and devotion to each other. They want to celebrate what God has done these past 3 years, but even more, celebrate what He will do many more to come. Thank you for being a part of celebrating their love and encouraging them as they enter into this exciting new journey!
