Before we started dating I made David promise me that he would take me to Puerto Rico someday. Finally, after graduation we planned a trip to Puerto Rico before David made the big move to California. David made really big plans all throughout the trip to see different parts of the island along with his family.On our first day day in Paradise, David and I spent the day exploring the island. Seeing the beach in Dorado, touring old San Juan, seeing the infamous Castillo San Felipe del Morro and enjoying delicious guava Krispy Kreme donuts. David was particularly sweet and a bit nervous all day as we toured the island but did not let on that anything special was planned. After returning from our day of adventure David let me know that as a family we were going to dinner at a nice place on the beach so I should dress up. He also mentioned that we needed to leave no later than 5 pm because his Titi (Aunt) Enid who is a wonderful photographer was planning to take pictures of the sunset. We rode over to the beach along with his Mom, Titi Enid and his cousin Brendan— when we arrived the view was incredible. David and I started walking along the beach into the sunset while his Titi was taking photos of "the sunset," before I knew it David got very serious and asked if he could be romantic for a second. I would never turn down a romantic gesture, and listened carefully while David told me some of the kindest and sweetest things. With the sunsetting in the distance and the waves crashing around us, it took me completely by surprise when David got down on one knee, pulled a box out of his pocket and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him. I was in total shock and I was very surprised, and my initial reaction was "Are you sure? Are you serious?" before finally realizing what exactly had happened and before I exclaimed YES!Still shocked, surprised and happy, we took our engagement pictures right then and there (which can be seen under the photos tab above) as the sun was setting behind us. David and I then enjoyed our own private dinner bajo la luna (under the moon) with the ocean in front of us. David and I took the time to reflect, laugh, cry (well—I cried), pray, and enjoy our first meal as an engaged couple. We are very thankful (and David in particular) for all those that helped orchestrate the proposal. For my parents (Francisco and Dora) not spilling the beans, for his mom (Mildred) keeping him calm beforehand, for Brendan filming the entire proposal, for Titi Enid and Uncle Bill's generosity and for the wonderful photos of one of the happiest moments of our lives and for the beautiful serenade from Ryan (cousin) and Ben (brother) during our dinner bajo la luna.
