Our lives first crossed paths on September 19th, 2019. And it was this intersection that began to weave the tapestry of love that we share.
On this day, Dean walked into Guitar Center for a job interview. Inquiring of where the interview was to be held, he was pointed in the right direction by a cute Latina behind the counter (that’s Sabrina by the way). Had Dean not been miraculously given the job despite his lack of sales experience, we would not have the story we have today.
Working in the guitar department, Sabrina would pass by the audio department where Dean resided. Being the curious people person that she is, she asked him questions and began to secretly observe if he would conform into the atmospheric culture of rockers and bobos. To her surprise, he did not.
One Sunday for a work event, the topic of church came up, and Dean began to observe himself. Hearing Sabrina talk about her relationship with the Lord and faith perked up his ears like a jackrabbit.
Early the following year, Dean began to panic upon his realization that he had feelings for this woman. Seeking the advice and wisdom of his sister, she encouraged him to simply pray about it. Which he did. Dean was going to ask Sabrina out.
On March 19, 2020, Dean mustered up the courage to go on a walk with Sabrina at lunch to confess his affection. She was interested and reciprocated and wanted to take time to develop intentional friendship to see if this cookie would have chocolate chips or raisins (Sabrina loves chocolate chip cookies by the way).
The following day, Guitar Center was shut down due to the pandemic. Dean and Sabrina pursued this intentionality through very long text messages, phone calls, and FaceTime.
On May 6th, we hung out for the first. Dean took Sabrina on a hike up the wrong side of the hill. However, they reached the summit and proceeded to talk more of God and faith for four hours.
As time went on, the Lord began to show both Dean and Sabrina of their own healing journeys they needed to embark upon before growing closer and entering into a relationship. Through much prayer and council by friends and mentors, we took the step to become official on October 13th, 2022. Dean took Sabrina on the right side of the hill this time and at the summit asked her to be his girlfriend (she said yes).
Through many fun dates, playing together on the worship team, laughter, deep conversations, seasons of growth, prayer, the Lord began to speak to us separately at different times of what marriage and a future could look like together. And so beginning in March of 2023, we began to talk about it openly and honestly. Which ensued Dean’s greatest challenge of all, how in the world was he going to surprise propose to this girl who can read him like the New York Times?
On December 17th, 2023, he somehow accomplished this great feat (she said yes again).
We have so much excited anticipation for our future, our home, and our family we are starting. We have seen God work tremendously in our lives together and have received confirmation after confirmation from the Lord and our community that He has something so special for us. We are so looking forward to celebrating with you.
Love,
D&S
