Bride: It all started in October of 2021… I was working Hurricane Ida clean up in Grand Isle, LA. I was told by my supervisor to go count the scoops of sand being dumped into the sifter. I walk up this huge sand pile and ask the guy in the trackhoe, “ You know what you're doing?” This smart ass says, “No, they let anyone operate $1 million machines”. I scoffed, he scoffed, and we went about our day. Weeks later, I’m one of the supervisors now. I went to check on Heidi who was counting scoops that day. Naturally, Corey starts talking shit about me doing nothing all day. I said, “That’s funny from a guy who goes ‘Left. Right. 1. Left. Right. 2.’ all day”. We continued to joke with each other after that. Joking turned into us talking and him playing with the boys in the backseat. When I would correct them, he would tell me, “Leave my little buddies alone”. Boyyy did that backfire on him all these years later. His first time coming to the house, we were sitting on the couch when Bentley asked for his milk cup. When I went to sit back down, Bentley was wrapped around Corey’s arm. I asked him to please move so I could sit and he said, “No mommy. My Bear.” From that moment on, still till this day, he is Bear or Mr. Bear to some adults because of the kids. On November 22nd, he asked me out on a date. We went to Chili’s in Slidell. My mom told me not to fart and burp on him so I didn’t scare him away. Guess what!? I did both and he still stayed. We had our first Christmas together, took our first family vacation to see Blake and the kids in Missouri, and had our firsts of every holiday together as a family after that. The whole year before he proposed, I would hint at wanting to get engaged. I would ask him if he loved me and when he said yes, I would look at my ring finger and go “ehhhh”. I even told him I would propose to him if he didn’t do it soon. He must have known I wasn’t joking. On March 25th, 2025, he took me to dinner at Alumni Grill before he went back to work. When dinner was over, I did the whole “do you love me?” ring finger shake thing. I think I ruined his original plans at that moment… He said “you have something in your eye”. He pushed up my glasses and wiped my eye. What I didn’t know was that he put the ring on the table in front of me when he did that. I put my glasses back on and he just kept smiling at me. I asked him why he was doing that because it was weird. Finally, he told me to look down. Good thing the box wasn’t a snake because it would have bit me. I asked, “ What is that?!”. He told me to look. He should have known better at that moment… I peaked in the box and instantly shut it, held it to my chest, and asked him if he was serious. After what felt like eternity passed, he said “Well, are you gonna say something?!”. I said, “Well, are you gonna ask me something?!”. He was so nervous that he forgot he had to actually ask me to marry him. So finally he asked and of course I said yes! It’s about damn time!We’ve had our ups and downs just like any other relationship. But the love never stopped. He has been by my side through so much. He gave a broken, single mom with not 1, but 2 au-some kids a chance. In the last 4 years, he healed hearts that he did not break and raised kids that aren’t biologically his. We’ve made a house into a home and continue to show our kids what a loving relationship looks like. I couldn’t imagine doing this life with anyone else.
