It all started on April 6, 2024—just another ordinary day, or so we thought. Despite the busyness of spring and seeding, Cody’s friends convinced him to head into Lethbridge for the evening. Deanna was out with friends too, and when one of them struck up a conversation with Cody’s buddy, Cody figured it was the perfect time to introduce himself. “Hi, my name is Cody.” Insert handshake. “Hi, I’m Deanna. So… what do you do for a work?” “I’m a farmer,” he replied. “Do you have any barley?” (Deanna was working as a grain buyer for Newco Grain Exchange at the time) Not exactly your typical pickup line, but it worked. We talked and hung out for a couple hours that night, and as it got chilly, Cody offered Deanna his sweater. With full confidence, he said, “You can just give it back next time you see me.” Deanna wasn’t so sure there would be a next time... but the sweater’s still in her closet today. God clearly had other plans. Just a couple of weeks later, on April 18, we went on our first date to Boston Pizza—still one of our favorites—and by May 1, we were officially a couple. From then on, life moved fast, but it was always filled with joy and adventure. We’ve made memories in Waterton, Fernie, and Banff, and theres never a dull moment along the way! We spend countless hours together in the tractor during seeding and harvest. Some of our favorite moments have been the simple ones: fishing, camping with family, spontaneous ice cream runs, and racing each other through the fields to see who could skip faster. Even with an hour drive between us, we rarely missed a chance to be together, and every Wednesday without fail is date night! Then, on May 10, 2025, at Cody’s family farm—a place that was very special to them—Cody asked Deanna to marry him. Now, we’re stepping into the next chapter of the story God has been writing from the very beginning. We’re so grateful for His perfect timing, and we can’t wait to celebrate the love, joy, and faith that brought us here—with all of you.
