Our Story

The First Meeting

Our story begins online, as so many do these days! Our first date was on a warm, (Scott insists it was a hot) July evening on the patio at Porter Creek in Fargo. We both spotted each other smiling and were immediately relieved that we looked just like our profile pictures. Two hours flew by with easy conversation and lots of laughs, and by the end of the night, we were both already hoping for a second date.

Dating

For the first two and a half years, our relationship involved a lot of driving between Fargo and Grand Forks. We made the most of it, though, with adventures like throwing axes in Fargo, attending elegant galas in Grand Forks, and cheering on UND hockey. We've swam in Big Cormorant Lake and the ocean, watched Scott's son play sports, and traveled to Duluth, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Through all the fun (and a few bumps in the road), we fell in love and knew we were meant to be a family.

The Proposal

After getting the ring, Scott spent a lot of time stressing about the perfect proposal. He considered something "fancy," maybe even on our cruise in February 2025. But the more he planned, the more anxious he got. Then, one Saturday afternoon in January, we were talking about our future, and Scott just couldn't wait any longer. In that moment, he knew it was the right time to propose.

Deb, on the other hand, couldn't understand his worry. "He already knew I was going to say yes!" she says. The spontaneous proposal made it even more special, proving just how excited he was to start this next chapter.

We celebrated with a bottle of champagne before heading back to Porter Creek—the perfect place to honor where it all began.

The Engagement

Life has been a whirlwind since that January day! Deb got a new job in Grand Forks, sold her house in just two days, and moved at the end of March. The job wasn't the right fit, but she quickly found a new one in August. Since then, we've remodeled our bathroom, landscaped the yard, and somehow managed to fit two households' worth of stuff into one!

Most importantly, we've become a happy family of three.

We can't wait to celebrate with all of you this July!

Wedding Party

Scott's son, Jace, and our long time friends, Kristen Depree and George Hellyer, will stand next to us on our wedding day.

Jace will be a senior at Red River High School next year. He has a passion for basketball and football, playing both sports throughout high school. He’s also a natural with numbers and has an interest in golf, even beating Scott every now and then! We cherish the moments we get to spend with him, whether we're getting lost in a corn maze, cheering on UND, watching the Timberwolves, or catching a movie.

Kristen and Deb have been friends for nearly 20 years. After working together, traveling, and countless summer nights on a patio, Kristen knows Deb better than anyone. Kristen has a great sense of humor, is a talented cook, has great taste in shoes and wine, and shares an aversion to camping. Deb is so grateful to have Kristen standing by her side on this special day!

George and Scott have been friends for over 25 years. They survived a few tax seasons together and spent more time working with each other than they did with their own families. Their shared love for rock & roll has led them to many concerts, as well as countless rounds of golf. Jace looks up to George, who, at 10 years older than LeBron, still loves to play basketball. Scott is honored to have George with him on his wedding day.

Registry

FAQ's

Where will the wedding take place?

The wedding ceremony will be held at 4:00 pm in the Hopper-Danley chapel, which sits along the English Coulee on the campus of UND, near the Hughes Fine Arts Center.

Where will the reception take place?

A social hour, dinner, and dance will take place on UND's campus at the Gorecki Alumni Center, beginning at 5:00 pm. The Gorecki is about .20 miles from the Hopper-Danley chapel, and is connected by walking paths.

Where is parking available?

The Gorecki faces University Avenue. There is a parking lot behind the building, which is accessed by Strinden Road. (The Gorecki is on the corner of University and Strinden Road). We recommend parking behind the Gorecki and walking to the Hopper-Danley Chapel, if you are able.

If mobility is difficult (or your shoes are too cute to be comfortable) there is a smaller parking lot closer to the Hopper-Danley, The parking lot is located between Smith Hall and the Burtness Theater, and is accessed from Centennial Drive (the road in front of Gamble Hall). If you park here, you will cross the English Coulee via a walking bridge.

Please see the maps in the travel section of our website for parking locations and directions. The first map shows the parking lot behind the Gorecki Alumni Center, and the second shows the parking lot closer to the Hopper-Danley Chapel. The third map outlines the walking path between them.

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Both the ceremony and reception will be indoors, however the parking lot is some distance away and you may want to walk between the locations. The distance is about .20 miles, along paved walking paths near the English Coulee (which is home to ducks and geese). We recommend wearing shoes that are comfortable for that distance.

Are the ceremony and reception location wheelchair accessible?

Both locations are wheelchair accessible, however, traveling the walking paths between them will require assistance to push the wheelchair.

What should I expect after the ceremony?

After the ceremony guests can drive or walk to the Gorecki Alumni Center, where light snacks and drinks will be available. Dinner will be served about 6:30 pm with dancing to follow at about 8:00 pm.

Will there be an open bar?

A cash bar will be available for alcoholic beverages during the reception.

Will transportation be provided?

We are not providing any shuttles for the events, but our ceremony and reception are taking place in the same area. There is ample parking near the Gorecki. Both Uber and Lyft are available for those who prefer not to drive. Please stay safe and use a ride service or carpooling if you plan to drink.

Are children and additional guests welcome?

We are able to accommodate those listed on your invitation, and have included the children of our invited guests.

Do you have a hotel block for guests?

We have not reserved a hotel block, but have included several options near our venue in the Travel section of our website.
