Our connection was instant, an immediate draw to one another. I have to thank my old 1970s single wide trailer for bringing me the man of my dreams, oh and my uncle for sending him right to my doorstep. While my family and I were smoothing out all the kinks in this trailer I needed my uncle, who has worked for Brown Roofing for ages, to come and fix my snow-melt leaking roof with an offer of a nice bottle of whiskey to take home once he finished. Instead, he sent out workers to do the dirty work for him. I remember opening my door to Tyler and having to walk him through my house explaining where my leaks were while simultaneously feeling so nervous I think I was sweating because I was never expecting such a handsome man to be sent to my aid. When he left I immediately reached out to my uncle asking who Tyler was, insisting on him to send me his last name so I could get to know him.
Days had passed and my mom and I were headed to Arizona for the Eagles concert. Tyler and I had spent the whole week texting and calling, getting acquainted with all of each other’s goals, likes, dislikes, you name it and I can guarantee we talked about it. When we finally got back to Oregon and home to Dufur, Tyler drove through the snow storm to come stay with me after what felt like the longest weekend ever. We haven’t been apart since and after spending our first months together it had felt like lifetimes in the best way possible. He has graciously accepted my two cats into his home and together we acquired 8 chickens and a basset hound puppy. We had spoke of marriage early on and continuously throughout the time we have spent together, knowing what we wanted our next step to be.
I had waited for the winter months to pass to finally be able to take him mushroom hunting, my favorite pastime. There was a new spot I scoped out in the hopes of hitting the jackpot of morels, and I did just that. He was working so I called him and told him we have big date plans the following morning to finally go mushroom hunting together. Little did I know, he had already spoken to my parents, went with his mom to get my ring and was just waiting for this day to come too. When he asked me to marry him there was never a question of yes or no, it was always yes. I was so shocked he kept this entirely hidden from me until we got to the top of the hill and pulled out the most beautiful and sparkling ring from his pocket.
Here we are deep into planning our most special day along side one another. With plans of moving to the farm in the home I grew up in. This has been my dream since I was a little girl. I never knew I would be lucky enough to find a man like Tyler to make all of these dreams come true. So again I have to thank my leaky roof and uncle for giving me everything I could have ever wanted.
