124 Days To Go!

How did you meet?

Derek knew Emily well before Emily knew Derek. Long story short, at a disc golf league. Thanks to Cyle Shook for getting us together for a round finally! Even after Emily asked "who's Derek??" 3 times.

What was your first date?

Outside of disc golf, our first date was Christmas Tree shopping and decorating. Derek claimed he needed Emily's help with deciding where the tree went, even though he knew exactly where to put it!

Who said "I love you" first?

Emily! It slipped out! Perhaps a Freudian Slip. I was definitely trying to wait until Derek said it. Oops!

What is a typical "day in the life" for you as a couple?

We both wake up early, get ready, and go to work. Afterwards, Emily always cooks an EARLY dinner and we either play disc golf or watch our favorite show. We often end the night relaxing on the front porch, watering the gardens, and hanging out with our animals!

Do you have pets?

Emily has 2 cats, Stormy and Eevee. They are 7 years old and she has had them since they were kittens! Stormy is the problem child- a very sassy girl. Eevee is our very overweight innocent loving lady! Derek has 1 dog, Cooper. He is 8 years old and is the best trained dog in the world! Not kidding, he is actually a service animal and doesn't use a leash. He loves catching frisbees and is the best protector for the kitties! They get along great! Derek and Emily are excited for their first pets together down the road, but for now, these 3 will be our priorities!

Do you live together?

Yes, we live together in Greenville SC near Paris Mountain. Our little house is perfect- on a dead end street with a huge and beautiful yard! We are so blessed! Also- a fun fact about our house- 3 years ago (before we knew each other) we were both house shopping during the same week. We both put in offers on this house! Derek outbid Emily by a small amount and ended up getting the house. Emily was so sad! When she came over for the first time, her jaw dropped when she realized he lived at the house that her offer was declined on. She moved in a few months later. It is crazy how everything turned out in the end!

How did the proposal happen?

Honestly, Emily was shocked. The plan was to be taking pictures of Blake, Murph, and Finley for their family photo. We were at Paris Mountain, and Blake told me to stand by this waterfall so he can test the lighting, I turned for a "candid" shot, and when I turned around I asked Derek what he was doing on the ground! After I realized what he was doing, I completely blacked out trying to process it. I didn't even hear anything he said and apparently forgot to say yes right away!

What is your "go-to" date day?

A disc golf trip to a new course.

What is your "go-to" date night?

Sushi or Hibachi! We love food!
