As many modern love stories start, Jatnna and Derek matched on a good ol’ dating app. He was intrigued by her beauty and name while she was fascinated by his height and profile picture since he was holding a giant onion(it was an ostrich egg). After a month of talking, they met up for their first date at Dave & Busters.

As Derek walked Jatnna to her car, he said, “Oh no! I forgot I had this.” Sure enough, he pulled out an onion from his back pocket. With big smiles on their faces, the date continued and led into endless laughter, deep conversations, and a night that would leave an imprint on the rest of their lives. From that point forward, the rom com began.

Time truly does fly when you’re having fun. As the days passed, their love continued to grow. Sixers games, weddings, going to the cabin, long road trips, late nights, early mornings and laughing so hard their bellies would hurt. Derek knew it was time, so he wanted to do an unforgettable proposal.

Since Jatnna is from the DR, he wanted to propose there. On 3/3/23, Jatnna and Derek set out on a Whale tour followed by lunch on a beautiful island in Samaná. On one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, he got down on one knee and proposed. Without hesitation Jatnna said yes and Derek almost put the ring on the wrong finger. The moral of the story is to be yourself, appreciate every moment, love hard and bring an onion to your first date...you never know what could happen. We’re forever thankful for each and every one of you. We cannot wait to celebrate with you on 4/6/24!
