For 3 years Derrick and Keegan saw each other on a consistent basis but hardly ever spoke words to one another other than "Hi. How are you?" Derrick has been the Youth Pastor at FBC since 2020...and just a year later, in 2021, Keegan began working in the Sonlight School at FBC. Not only did they pass each other in the hallway every Tuesday and Thursday for 3 years...Keegan's daughter Drew and Derrick's sister Isabella were the same age and were growing to be best friends. Derrick had been interested in Keegan for a while, but was just too scared to do anything about it.

On Christmas Eve of 2023, a mutual friend came up to Derrick after church and said, "Soooo, I have a friend who wouldn't stop talking about you the other day. She brought your name up several times." But wouldn't tell him who it was. A couple days later this friend invited Derrick to a New Years Eve "hangout" in which his parents would be attending. Her reasoning was to "make his family feel more comfortable." Little did he know, Keegan and Drew were also invited to this little shin dig. When Derrick found out that she was going to be there he realized what was going on. That night they hardly acknowledged each other's existence. But Keegan made sure to make him at least tell her bye by yelling "Bye Derrick!" as he was getting in his car to leave.

A few weeks later Keegan showed up to FBC for the first time. Derrick used this as an excuse to get her number and reach out to let her know that he was glad to see her and Drew at church. After a week or so of texting Derrick finally worked up the courage to call and ask her on a date to which she thankfully said yes. For their first date they went Axe throwing (and she kicked his butt) and to dinner. They almost immediately agreed to a second date, where they "made it official".

It wasn't long before Keegan and Derrick knew that they were going to marry each other. They had dated for just over 7 months before Derrick popped the question. He was so excited to propose he could only hold onto the ring two days before asking her. They had a date night planned but Keegan didn't feel too great so she asked if he could just go pick up dinner and they could hang out at her house. So he did. When he got back, Derrick asked Keegan to marry him in her living room.
