Can I bring a +1 or kids?
We are only seating and catering for those that are invited, which is you only (unless otherwise confirmed with Des or Soph). Plus 1s have been limited as we have a guest limit for the venue.
What is the address of the wedding venue?

For the ceremony: Waiotahe Beach (see above image for the map) – you’ll see the cars parked on the rest area. And there will be signage.
For the reception: Ōpeke Marae, 21 Waioweka Pa Rd, Ōpōtiki. Please give yourself 20 minutes to drive from the ceremony to the reception venue.
When is the RSVP deadline?
It has passed. You are receiving this because you confirmed yourself as one of our very important guests.
Are kids welcome?
We love kids but have kept it to a minimum. We want you to join us worrying about yourself, and no one else. If we have not had a kōrero with you, then please leave our babies at home.
Can I bring a date?

Where should I park?
For the ceremony: There is parking at the beach rest area, which is off the main highway (see the map above). Please drive with care. If you can it would be best to carpool to limit the amount of cars as the parking lot isn't overly big.
For the reception: There is a lot of parking at the marae.
What time should I arrive?
We recommend arriving an hour before the ceremony, so that everyone is on time and so we can get everything started on schedule. Guests can arrive from 1.00pm with the ceremony starting at 2.00pm.
What should I wear?
Our wedding is semi formal, black (absolutely black, only black) and if you can, please bring yourself a white parasol umbrella. Dresses, jumpsuits, dress pants etc are all welcome. Also remember it will be summer. Ladies, the ceremony will be taking place on sand so make sure your footwear can handle that. The reception and anything after has hard flooring so you will be fine then.
What colour are the bridesmaids wearing?
Black.
What colour are the groomsmen wearing?
Black.
What is there to drink?
For the ceremony: We will have water. You are welcome to bring your own.
For the reception: We will have alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages while you wait for the wedding party. And there will be some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on the tables.
What will the weather be like?
It's the beginning of summer so expect warm conditions.
What happens if it rains?
If there is a bit of rain, we'll carry on. Check the skies on the day and please dress accordingly. If the weather is a shocker, we will let you know via Facebook that the ceremony venue has been moved to the marae.
What are the wedding colours?
Our theme is ‘Beach Boho’ with colours black and a touch of rose gold. If you can, please also bring a white parasol.
Is it okay to take photos/videos during the wedding?
Yes it’s all good. We will have a QR code at the ceremony and reception as well so that any photos you’d like to share can be dropped into the website that the QR code is linked to.
Will the ceremony & reception be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will be outdoors with the reception taking place indoors.
Is there seating for everyone at the ceremony?
There will be limited seating, reserved for kaumātua and pakeke. If you can find a drift log, then feel free to sit on that.
What do I do with my empties and litter?
We ask that you please take your empties and litter with you. Please do not paruparu our whenua.
Are there toilets at the ceremony venue?
No. But there are trees, nooks and crannies. Please try not to scare the wild-life if you need to water the plants.
What happens after the ceremony?
After the ceremony we will take some group pictures. So we’ll ask the following groups to be ready to join in with Des & Soph:
• Everyone – large wedding group
• Their tamariki/mokopuna family photo
• Takamore family photo
• Hudson family photo
• Tuhaka family photo
• McPhee family photo
• If time allows, friends photo.
Once that is complete the bridal party will then head off to take photos. Guests will be asked to make their way to Ōpeke marae for pre-dinner snacks and drinks. You can take the time to mix and mingle with each other.
If we are from out of town, where can we stay?
We recommend looking at accommodation in Ōpōtiki. From Friday to Sunday, the marae will be open for whānau to stay as well. You will need to bring you own linen. Please let us know if you need accommodation at the marae.
Wedding gifts/Wishing Well?
Please know that your love and company on our wedding day is the only thing we could ask for! However, if you do wish to celebrate with a gift, a wishing well will be present.
When does the reception/wedding end?
The wedding will be done by 12am. Everyone will need to leave the party by then. If there is an afterparty, can you let us know so we can join you.
