Their story began with volleyball, sand, sunshine, and fire ball shots! They both played on various coed volleyball teams at STL Sandbar in Valley Park. However they did not meet until Diana's volleyball team, Here For The Beer, needed a long-term sub. After the first game Diana smoothly asked Joel for his number in order to "text him game times". Week after week the two grew closer through bumps, sets, spikes, and the team's weekly pump-up juice, fireball shots. Joel took Diana out on a first date at Benedetto's and the rest was history.
