But it makes the ride worthwhile
We're not kids anymore. We've seen our share of ups and downs, loneliness and close relationships. And in November of 2023, a new chapter began.
Jim and I were both members of Minneapolis Singles when we saw each other's profiles. A kind face and a stable background caught my eye. He saw the red hair and, after reading my bio he thought, "I'd like to get to know this gal better." Phone numbers were exchanged and dinner at Buca de Beppo's was our first date!
Moving through the winter season was fun and casual. Trips to the zoo (Jim volunteerd there for over 30 years!), exploring restaurants, taking walks, LOTS of phone conversations. Comfortable and pleasant. And while he was out of town, I started learning the lyrics to "Dream a Little dream of me". It became our song
And then, as it sometimes happens in life, there is pain. Jim and his family experienced the loss of a beloved parent. Since I've walked that path myself, I was glad to be a support to Jim. And the fondness we felt deepened.
New adventures awaited as spring and summer arrived. Jim's an avid fisherman and started to teach me how! We explored many lakes around the Twin Cities and beyond. And apart from breaking a cane pole while reeling in a half pound Sunny, I'm getting the hang of it! And while we had our lines in the water, we started talking about what a long term relationship looked like. As fall settled in, we started shopping for rings. Smile, gulp.
October 11, 2024, Jim took a deep breath, pulled a box out of his pocket, and said, "I can't imagine my life without you...would you marry me?" And, I gladly responded, "I would be honored to be your wife."
It's been a busy 6-month engagement period. We've been planning a wedding, working full-time, supporting each other through health challenges (ain't aging grand?!), and discussing how to convert Jim's bachelor pad into a love nest for two. (The kitchen needs a LOT of help!) But through it all, our love grows. We definitely agreed with Audrey Hepburn when she said, "The best thing to hold onto in life is each other."
