FAQ

We are coming from out of town. When should we be in San Francisco?

The main event will be on Saturday, September 14. We are also going to host something informal during the day on Sunday, September 15 (more details to come!).

If you are coming from far away and plan to spend longer than just a weekend in San Francisco, we suggest you come to town a few days before the wedding. That's when we will take time off work to spend time with you.

By when and how do we RSVP?

Please RSVP as soon as possible. The link is on the top of this page. If you have any issues, let us know!

What should I wear?

Wedding cocktail attire, or whatever makes you happy.

And how's the weather in SF in September? What should I wear, really?

September is likely to be sunny and on the "warmer" side, which means between 13C and 22C (55F and 70F). There's a slight chance that temperatures will go as high as 26-27C (78-80F).

The first rule of San Francisco: Even when it's sunny and warm, always have a jacket with you.

What time do we reeeally need to be at City Hall?

Austrians and Brazilians have very different approaches to time, so we wanted to be explicit :)

We recommend you arrive no later than 12:15 pm. The doors at City Hall will open at 12:00 pm sharp, and the ceremony will start punctually at 12:30 pm. There are no brides at this wedding, so we won't be late because of hair and makeup :)

Should I drive? Is there transportation provided?

There's limited parking available close to City Hall and General's Mansion. We'll also be providing transportation from Galleria Park Hotel to City Hall, and from City Hall to the General's Residence.

Our recommendation is that you don't drive, but it's up to you.

What kind of food will you be serving? I have a dietary restriction.

There's going to be a lot of food at this wedding: we'll be hosting a Taco Bar during cocktail hours, serving pizza from a pizza truck for dinner, and offering temaki / handrolls as a late-night dancetime snack.

Our first date was at a Mexican restaurant; Dieter's favorite food is pizza; Edu's favorite food is sushi. So we think this is fitting for our wedding.

Vegetarian options will be available for all courses. If you have specific dietary restrictions, please let us know.

What time will the reception end?

11:00 pm. It's a long day, so come well-rested! We'll have a coffee cart to keep you awake with delicious espresso-based drinks.

There's no registry on this website. What should I give you as a gift?

No gifts, please! Many of you will travel from very far to be with us on our special day. Your presence is the only gift we could ask for.

No gifts, but what about about bears? I hear you have a full teddy-bear family.

No bears, please! We already have too many :)

I have other questions that aren't answered here. What do I do?

Ask us directly, or check this website in a few weeks. We will continue to add information to this page.

SO, THERE'S THIS APP CALLED GRINDR...

Not the most romantic of beginnings, we know... but no one meets at a bar anymore, and neither did we :)

On September 26 2015, Edu saw this handsome man on Grindr (a gay dating app) and chatted him up. Instead of waiting forever to meet in person, they decided to go grab burritos at El Farolito that same evening. Edu ate half, Dieter ate one and a half.

And then they went on another date on the next day, and another on the next... and they met almost every day when they were both in town, until they were officially boyfriends a month later.

And then we started traveling...

Things moved fast for us two. After 6 months, we moved in together. After 9 months, we took our first big international trip: Austria and Brazil, to attend the weddings of Krista (Dieter's sister) and Juliana (Edu's friend).

As an omen of what was to come, Dieter and Edu got randomly upgraded to Business class on their flight to Vienna! It was in that moment that Edu knew that, if he were to ever propose, he'd do it on a plane crossing the Atlantic.

Many other trips have followed since then: Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, Sonoma and the wine country, New York, Park City, Beaver Creek, Südtirol, Hong Kong, Black Rock City, Cabo, Seattle, Palm Springs, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio, São Paulo, Porto de Galinhas, Barretos, Toronto, Nassfeld, Vienna, Rechnitz, and Kőszeg.

And both of us continue to talk about planes, airlines and aviation in general almost every day. Ask us about the Flightradar24 app :)

And then the bears came...

Dieter went to Korea for a conference, and there he fell in love with this grumpy-looking bear (which we later discovered was wildly popular in Asia, where it started as a sticker in a messaging app called Line). He brought that teddy bear home, and that was Grumpy Bear.

His friend Mark had given him a cowboy-looking bear before, and, later that year, after noticing that this bear dressed just like Edu dresses at Burning Man, Burning Man Bear was created.

Since then, our bear collection has grown significantly. Please don't ask.

And then Edu proposed to Dieter!

And then Edu proposed to Dieter -- on a plane, with both Grumpy Bear and Burning Man Bear!

On January 17, 2018, Edu proposed on a Swiss 777-300, flight # LX 39, from San Francisco to Zürich. Dieter was taken by surprise, but he did think it was strange that Edu asked him not to drink much before departure, at the airport lounge. :)

And now, onwards to our wedding. We're looking forward to starting this next chapter of our lives with you!
