Built by the Spanish in St. Augustine to defend Florida and the Atlantic trade route, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument preserves the oldest masonry fortification in the continental United States and interprets more than 450 years of cultural intersections.

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park began in the late nineteenth century as a small exhibition of Florida reptiles and soon became a quintessential Florida attraction. Today it functions as a modern zoo serving the public and the scientific community with educational shows and exhibits, important research, and worldwide conservation efforts. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm’s history as an attraction and an accredited zoo is nearly as exciting as zipping across the Alligator Lagoon on Crocodile Crossing, the park’s thrilling zip-line attraction.

Today, San Sebastian ranks as one of Florida's premium wineries, and remains a pioneer in the development of premium, sparkling and dessert wines from Muscadine grapes. Vinifera wines are also produced to include Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon and are marketed along with blended and sparkling wines from native Muscadine grapes. Port and Cream Sherry dessert wines are also produced by and sold under the San Sebastian brand. Together, these labels have won many awards for excellence in winemaking, over 744 so far with more to come each season.

The Oldest Wooden School House is a wooden structure located at 14 St. George Street in St. Augustine, Florida near the city gate. It is touted as being the oldest wooden school building in the United States. The exact date of construction is unknown, but it first appears on tax records in 1716.

The González-Alvarez House, is the oldest documented First Spanish Period Colonial house in Florida, built of coquina stone (native shellstone quarried from across the bay on Anastasia Island), circa 1720, and enlarged by subsequent British and American owners. In the 1950s, it was restored to its early 19th century configuration. Almost all of the two-story house is used for exhibition. The Gonzales-Alvarez House, widely known as the Oldest House, is a National Historic Landmark and anchors the Historical Society’s Oldest House Museum Complex, a key historical attraction in the city. As a house museum, the Gonzales-Alvarez House interprets four distinct periods of St. Augustine history.

St. Augustine Beach is a small city on Anastasia Island known for its wide, Atlantic Ocean-facing beaches. St. Johns County Ocean Pier offers fishing, plus a beachfront park with volleyball courts, a playground, and a children’s splash zone. A sea turtle nesting site, Ocean Hammock Park has a nature trail and picnic areas. A1A Beach Boulevard is scattered with ice cream shops and casual seafood and Mexican eateries.
