Our Wedding

Bridget Lawhon and Dolores Trevino declared their love and commitment to each other and were married in a civil ceremony on May 1, 2025. Their story began in San Francisco in the 1980s, where they met through mutual friends Bill and Bob. In the summer of 1985, they joined a small group of women vacationing in Paia on the island of Maui, Hawaii. A few months after that magical trip, they started dating. Dolores moved to Oakland, and they lived together for 9 years. They separated, but over time, they resumed their friendship. They became a couple in 2024 when Dolores asked Bridget if they could try again. Bridget said yes, but wanted to go slow. To celebrate Dolores’ 70th birthday, they took a trip to Iztapa, Mexico. After watching a glorious sunset on New Year’s Eve, Dolores proposed. Bridget said yes. Bridget has a large family that gathers every year to spend a week together at a family property at Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos in northeastern Pennsylvania. They will celebrate their wedding at “Lake week” this July. On August 9th, Bridget and Dolores will have a West Coast celebration of their marriage in the beautiful redwoods of the East Bay hills. They want to extend their joy with beloved friends and family. The story is pretty how we met, what happened, and what we are like now. Bridget has always held a special place in my heart. I'd like to share a little story, if you'll indulge me. I was in 1985 or 1986. Bridget and I had just returned from our magical trip to Hawaii. I had seen Bridget out and about in San Francisco. I felt like our time in Hawaii was an opportunity to get to know each other. We casually bumped into each other, had coffee for a bit, and went to the movies. It was at this time that I started to really "see" Bridget. She was moving to Oakland to be closer to her job at Kaiser. Bridget called a mutual friend (Lisa DeZordo) to ask if she had any boxes she could use. She did, and when Lisa told me she was going to drop them off at Bridget's apartment, I eagerly asked, "Can I go too?" We visited her apartment in the Richmond District. Bridget was working the night shift at the time, so she had to take naps in the daytime. Through sleepy yawns, she thanked us for the boxes, and we said our goodbyes on the stairs outside her apartment. As we went down the stairs, I glanced back up at the stairs. Bridget was sitting at the top, and she ran her fingers through her hair. There was a skylight that allowed sunlight to enter. She was surrounded by white light, and she took my breath away then and there. That was the moment I knew I was falling in love with her. That was thirty years ago. We have spent time living our lives separately and have now entered into marriage. Bridget is my friend, my lover, my confidante, and so much more. She is the rock I can lean on when times get hard. She makes me laugh so hard my stomach aches. I can't think of anyone else on the planet I want to walk with through the world for the rest of my life. I'm grateful for her love for me. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support of both of us over the years. We are truly blessed to have such a loving community surrounding us. Peace and blessings to us all.
