From the West Glacier entrance, the Going-to-the-Sun Road offers stunning views. Take the road all the way to Logan Pass, stop at the iconic Lake McDonald, or just stop along the many turnouts on the way.
* If you plan to travel to Logan Pass visitor center, plan for it to take at least 1.5 hours each way. Parking is extremely limited at the visitor center during peak hours.
* Vehicle reservations are required for the Going-to-the-Sun road between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Next Day vehicle reservations are available every day at 7 p.m. It's like checking into a Southwest flight: be on time, because they go fast! To make reservations visit recreation.gov or visit the park's website for more information.
Of course you knew we'd say hiking. If you hike, you MUST carry bear spray. Some of our favorite trails in the park are:
Hidden Lake (easy)
We recommend this if youre looking for a low effort, high reward hike. Theres kids, families, grandmas and grandpas on this trail. The trail starts at Logan Pass Visitor Center.
Avalanche Lake (moderate)
This is one of the most popular hikes in the park. The trailhead is not far from the West Entrance of the park just past Lake McDonald.
The Highline Trail (hard)
This is one of our favorite hikes. It follows along the edges of the valley for the most incredible views of the park. We recommend turning around once you reach Granite Park Chalet rather than continuing to the loop trail. The trailhead begins near Logan Pass Visitor Center.
Grinnell Glacier (hard)
For as difficult as this hike is, its incredibly popular, and for good reason. For most of the hike, youll have views of beautiful alpine lakes, see lots of wildlife, and hike to the famous Grinnell Glacier. This hike starts at Many Glacier Hotel on the East side of the park.
For those seeking a true adventure: Our wedding venue is owned by Glacier Raft Company, which offers group discounts. Half-day, full-day, and multi-day Montana rafting experiences on the scenic Middle Fork and North Fork of the Flathead River are available.
If you’re looking for a horseback ride in Glacier National Park, head straight to Swan Mountain Outfitters– the only vendor that offers rides within the borders of the park. Or book a ride with one of many vendors in Whitefish.
Fly fishing is a big activity in and outside of the park. We recommend Glacier Anglers & Outfitters if your fishing poles don't fit in your carry-on.
There are beautiful lakes nearby including Lake McDonald (very close), Bowman Lake (about 50 miles away but worth the drive!), and Whitefish Lake (for those staying near Whitefish). Don't forget that this is glacial runoff, so while the water is beautiful and clear, it's typically cold as hell.
Whitefish is a cute town with a lot of shops, restaurants, and breweries. If you plan to drive through Kalispell, we recommend checking out their downtown as well!
