But as life would have it, DJ moved away to a different school and region, and their connection faded.

Fast forward to 2020, when the world paused for the pandemic, DJ couldn’t help but tease Rica about her fresh haircut after seeing one of her Facebook stories. From there, they started swapping movie recommendations and trading playlists, and before long, DJ was even lending Rica his precious Nintendo DS (because he heard through her brother, who happened to be his good friend, that she wanted one).

As fate would have it, DJ’s family launched a milk tea business, Monsterboba, and Rica—an avid milk tea lover—was quick to support. She ordered again and again, not just for the drinks but secretly hoping DJ would be the one delivering her order. Soon, the two were sneaking away on secret dates, meeting at Petron NLEX KM 23 or NLEX Drive and Dive for some stolen moments together.

It all became official at DJ’s nephew Deon’s first birthday party when they decided to make their relationship exclusive.
