What a crazy time it’s been together—and we’re just getting started!

We first met on May 29, 2023, at Lutheran Island Camp on the first day of staff training. From the very beginning, we hit it off! We sat next to each other at our first meal, talking about life and getting to know each other. As the days went by, we became closer friends, enjoying every moment we could spend together. Even in the midst of our hectic summer staff schedules, we made intentional efforts to see one another.

It wasn’t always easy to find time, but whenever we did, it was always so much fun! One of our favorite things was playing music together in the chapel, which often led to long conversations. On free nights, we’d head out on walks, sit on the dock under the stars, or go on late-night adventures on the island.

As our friendship deepened, we realized it was time to decide what to do about our relationship. In the end, we figured we would "give it a try" and were officially together in early July.

When summer ended, we found ourselves in a long-distance relationship, driving just under six hours one way to see each other. We made every effort to see one another as often as school and work would allow. The fall and winter were long, hard months, but we stayed connected through calls and visits whenever possible. Holidays were a special highlight, giving us the chance to spend more time together and with each other’s families.

As spring arrived, we found ourselves settling into a steady rhythm, feeling closer and more certain about our future together. By summertime, we began to talk more seriously about the idea of getting engaged and what that next step would mean for us—we were just waiting for the right time.

That perfect time arrived on August 28th, with an early morning surprise at Lydia’s apartment door with roses and a ring. Lydia was beyond excited, happy, and completely surprised—and she said yes!

Throughout our journey, we’ve seen how God has been at work in our relationship, helping us encourage and support one another. He has guided us every step of the way, and we are excited to see where He leads us in this next chapter of life. Our prayer is that we continue to glorify God together in all that we do!
