Earl & Katie

Our Story

It was summer 2012. Katie and her twin brother Dave had just graduated from BYU and were at home in Washington for the summer, biding their time until both were to begin their graduate programs. Their first Sunday home, Dave and Katie went to church where Dave spotted a friend from BYU. He introduced his friend to Katie as Earl Greathouse from Utah. Then they started talking about computer programming, and Katie zoned out. Apparently, the timing wasn't right for Earl and Katie to connect as more than acquaintances.

Three years later, Katie and Earl's paths crossed again, this time without computer programming interference. Katie saw Earl and thought he looked familiar. Katie realized she had met him before . Earl, of course, instantly recognized Katie. Katie said hi to Earl (sneakily wondering if he would ask her out, but not too sneakily). Earl eventually mustered the courage to ask her on a fantastic first date to frozen yogurt/walking adventures. They found out they both like tennis and that led to even more great dates.

For Christmas, Katie gave Earl a death star at which point Earl realized the force was with her, and she was the one. Earl started plotting mischievously his sneak proposal attack. The day before Valentine's Day, Earl traveled 215 miles to see Katie at her apartment. He had carefully researched beautiful scenery near the Tri-Cities (a surprisingly challenging task) and found Palouse waterfall. When they got there, Earl swept Katie away to a romantic overlook where he sneakily attempted to distract Katie's attention (but Katie knew better). He knelt down and asked her to marry him. Katie said YES! And the rest is history.

We look forward to seeing you all at our wedding.
