Our Story

How we met?

Her version:

Well, it all started when I returned to Columbia after 4 years of completing my internship under the supervision of my current mentor, to interview for a full time social work position. I was extremely nervous, despite the relationship in place there was still formalities to be followed. As I sat in the waiting area to be called back, a few familiar faces stopped to speak. There was this last face who peeked around the corner, greeted me with a smile and “hello how you doing”. Little did I know at the time, that after speaking he went right to my mentors office to ask who I was and informed her that “she must hire me”. We were coworkers and I was determined to keep it just that. After sometime passed, I noticed that this guy who interacted well with the kids was sweet on me. It was subtle and sweet, he gifted me a birthday card and my favorite candy (stating that he was fond of me but respected just being my friend). Time went on and we hung out, still I denied that they were dates. My friends will tell you that my actions spoke much more than my words were telling. The rest is history. I am grateful to be marrying my best friend.

His version:

It was a beautiful afternoon! The weather was nice and the sun was shining. I was working and was half way through my shift. It was a long but good day so far. I remember walking to get something to drink when I heard a small noise coming from the lobby. Curious to what or who it was I walked around the corner and then BOOM! It was a beautiful black young lady was sitting there. When she looked up at me I was in shock but intrigued! Then I quickly regrouped and said ‘HEY’ I didn’t want to be weird so I asked if someone came out to help her yet? She smiled and the dimples almost took me out. Couldn’t let her see me sweat so I said ok have a good day and kept it pushing like a G. Once I got back around the corner I went to her mentor and ask “who is that?” If I was capable of blushing I must have looked like I was because Ms. York said “oh thats my baby!” But little did she know that that was my baby too! 💜
