One weekend in July 2021, both Edna and Jake traveled to Playa del Carmen, Mexico where they connected and exchanged numbers. In the days after Playa del Carmen, Edna and Jake began to message and learn more about each other. Two weeks later, Edna and Jake were messaging daily and suggesting another trip to meet each other soon.
In August 2021, Jake took his first plane ride to San Luis Potosi, Edna’s hometown in Mexico. The pair spent one week together going on dinner-dates, roller skating, and visiting waterfalls in La Huasteca. In October 2021, Edna took her first plane ride to Kentucky, Jake’s home in the United States. The couple carved pumpkins, hiked Red River gorge, and visited Keeneland for horse races. Edna and Jake both started feeling their new relationship was unique and special. The only negative was that they lived 2,824 kilometers apart.
Edna and Jake continued to Facetime, message, and watch movies on Google Meets to be together. Every other month, one would visit the other for short trips together. On April 24th, 2022, Jake asked Edna to be his girlfriend, and she accepted. For the next 15 months, Edna and Jake dated long-distance from separate countries. The pair often took advantage of their situation by meeting on real trips instead of visiting each other’s hometowns for reunions. Edna and Jake visited places like Campeche, Peru, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Real de Catorce, Cozumel, Vancouver, and Banff National Park together.
In July 2023, Jake moved to Mexico. The couple decided short-distance dating was the next step in proving their compatibility and love, for they had dated only while traveling. Jake found a remote job and bought a one-way ticket for San Luis Potosi. The pair moved into an apartment together. Naturally, there were a few frustrating moments, but after six months Edna and Jake’s relationship had grown deeper and stronger. Family is very important to both Edna and Jake, and Jake was able to form a relationship with Edna’s family during this time period. The live-together experiment was judged to be a success.
In January 2024, Edna and Jake moved to south Florida where they currently live together. Edna has the remote job now which allows them to continue a short-distance relationship. On February 8, 2025, Jake proposed to Edna at sunset at Smyrna Dunes Park while on a weekend trip to Daytona Beach, Florida.
Edna and Jake’s story continues in 2025 and the couple is beyond excited to celebrate their marriage with family and friends on November 8th, 2025.
