For those of you that don't know.. Ed and I met in a hot tub in 2010. Simply put, I had high hopes of meeting a man with an accent and just so happened to attract one in what has now become the infamous yellow bikini.
7 years later, after millions of Whatsapp video messages, tears shed, rendezvous in a multitude of destinations, beautiful memories, the world brought us to Emerald Lake Lodge, Field BC on a -32 degree day.
It was here that Edward figured would be the perfect opportunity to test out his new GoPro tripod. *Disclaimer* The tripod idea was actually mine from a previous tripod moment in Morocco wherein I thought Ed was getting down on one knee proposing on a hot air balloon ride, but instead was down on one knee picking up his GoPro Tripod.
Anyway... on this particularly freezing day of December 17th, Edward decided to take me out on a hike. What a lovely idea as hiking just so happens to be one of my least favourite things, however, with some incentive (a proposal) I'd climb Everest. As we shuffled along we quickly began to lose feeling in all extremities and all hair (including eyelashes and nose hair) had frozen. Despite this, we continued our hike and moved out onto the recently frozen lake, as requested by Edward to capture the "perfect photo." It was here that Ed set up his tripod and snapped a few quick photos of me and the spectacular mountain view behind. A few moments later, Edward walked up to me and said "This photo is going to be a little bit different..." And it was, and it was perfect.
After squeezing each other, 17 squealing "OH MY GODs" and a "WELL PUT IT ON", Ed and I decided that there was no need to continue the hike.
Ed and I are simply ecstatic to celebrate with our family and friends as we continue writing the story of our love; We are getting married!
Kristina and I met under the most unique of circumstance.
Having spent many of my teenage years in my bedroom trying to build my business, it was my Mum and Dad whom insisted I go and get some life experience...
The idea of qualifying as a ski instructor came from a very old friend of mine, Louise, whom insisted if I were to go anywhere, Banff would be the destination.
Shortly after the conversations, I booked my trip in November, to leave in January.
We were staying in the Best Western (a truly fine establishment), and a very normal ritual routine for us would be after skiing we would soak in the hot tub to discuss the day with each other.
To be truthful, for the first month or so, we never met anyone in the hot tub except ourselves, so it was the last place we would go if we wanted to chat with people we had never met before.
Until, one day in February, a few damn fine splendid young women walked down the stairs, headed for the hot tub.
"Shotgun the one in the green bikini...", said one.
"Shotgun the one in the yellow...", said I.
It was as if by magic, the one in the yellow bikini sat next to me, and we started to talk.
I had heard the British accent was a useful weapon to have in the armory, and the one I was talking to in the yellow bikini certainly confirmed that was the case.
For the remainder of the trip, we saw each other almost every weekend, and we would alternate, sometimes we would go to Calgary, other times they would come back to Banff.
The saying, "you never truly realise how much you love something until it's gone", certainly became a quote I would often remember thinking to myself as I knew the end of my trip was near.
Throughout this trip, I was also working on my business, and I knew that if I continued to build my company, and grow it as fast as I can, I would have the means to come back and pursue the one person in the yellow bikini.
That's exactly what happened.
I would continue to come back and see her, and she would also make the trip to see me.
Over the years, distance made the heart grow fonder, but I knew shortly after leaving Banff for the first time I would be back, and one day, this beautiful young lady in the yellow bikini would be my wife.
Fast forward eight years, and it would seem the story is only just about to begin.
Kristina and I are getting married.
