Beaches
Rhode Island has fabulous beaches. Some of our favorites are Narragansett Town Beach, Scarborough State Beach (in Narragansett), and East Matunuck State Beach (in South Kingston).
While in Rhode Island, you've got to try some of our local fare.
Coffee
We love getting coffee at the Nook or Felicia's in East Greenwich, or Brewed Awakenings on Route 2 in Warwick.
Donuts
Anyone else a fan of the Foods that Built America series on the History Channel? One of the most heated debates is where North Carolina's Krispy Kreme or New England's Dunkin Donuts rank in our favorites list. Weigh in on whether you prefer a boston cream donut from Dunkin Donuts or a colorful sprinkle donout from Allie's Donuts in North Kingston.
Clam Shacks
Iggy's clam chowder is out of this world! In Warwick Neck (they also have a location in Narragansett) it's our favorite clam shack. We also love Aunt Carrie's in Narragansett. You've got to try Rhode Island style calamari while you are in town.
Italian faves
Rhode Island has exceptional Italian cuisine. Whether its a slice of party pizza (yes, we know, its not supposed to have cheese on it) or something more complex, choices abound. You can't go wrong anywhere on Federal Hill in Providence. We love the pizza at Fellini's in Providence, the meatballs at Marchetti's in Cranston, the lobster purses at Sardella's in Newport.
Oysters
Matunuck Oyster Bar, Wakefield, RI
Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar, Main St, East Greenwich
Providence Oyster Bar, Post Rd, East Greenwich
The Black Pearl, Newport (also love their clam chowder!)
Next to the Loom Hotel
Apponaug Brewing Company is conveniently located next to the Loom Hotel, and has an extensive menu and great vibes.
Some of Newport's best
22 Bowen's Wine Bar & Grille--classic waterfront dining
The Red Parrot--casual staple bar and restaurant right downtown
Bar and Board--great for dinner during the week, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
Cru Cafe--Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Breakfast all day. BYOB!
Pasta Beach Newport--Classic Newport pizza and pasta.
The Mooring Seafood Kitchen and Bar-Waterfront dining specializing in top catch seafood.
Boru Noodle Bar--Newport's only ramen noodle bar.
The White Horse Tavern--America's oldest tavern (fine dining). Considered one of the country's most romantic, historic, and haunted establishments, if you are lucky, you can sit at the table that Jackie Kennedy Onasis favored.
Things to do in Newport:
Tour the International Tennis Hall of Fame
Walk a bit of the Cliff Walk, a 3.5 mile public walk along the eastern shore of Newport, passing by historic mansions and natural scenery.
Ocean Drive is a self-driving tour with spectacular view of the shoreline and the lavish mansions that New Yorkers built as their "summer cottages" in the Gilded Age, at the end of the 19th century.
Tour one of the Newport Mansions (the Breakers, the Elms, Roseclifff, and Marble House are all favorites) or explore the Green Animal Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, RI.
Try a glass at one of our local vineyards: Shepherd's Run (in Wakefield) or Newport Vineyards.
