David and Elena met the summer of 2017 when Elena began her college classes at Kettering University. David was the president of the local Flint Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF). David and Elena would see each other at OCF Meetings, Liturgy on Sundays at St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church, and occasionally go swing dancing with other young people in Farmington Hills, MI.

Being close acquaintances for over two years, David and Elena began to talk to each other more frequently and grew their friendship. Realizing that they agreed on much more than they had originally thought, David and Elena went on their first date. It went well! After a couple more dates, one notably going to see The Spongebob Musical when it was on tour in Detroit, they began they began their dating relationship.

After two years of dating, David and Elena become engaged!
