Don't be scared because of the name. Honestly, if you know how to ride a bike, you can do it.
It is a 1-day trip, leaving early in the
morning and getting back in town late at night. It is fun, different, and definitely
something you won't be able to do in any other country. We are talking about
biking all the way from the sky at 4,600 meter above sea level (15,000 ft for
our American friends) to the jungle at only 1,500 meters (4,90o ft).
This might be slightly expensive, but it is a one in a life time experience. Bolivia has the largest salt flats in the world. It is like being in heaven, really.
Crillon tours is the best agency to book
a visit, and as I can see, they do a 1 day trip there.
TOTALY RECOMMENDED!!
Just impossible to explain in words the mysterious and somehow mystique vibes this place has. This is where the Incas story begins, where Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo (son and daughter of the sun) started their journey to reach Cusco in Peru, where they established what would then become the Inca Empire.
Regardless of if you believe the legend, or not, the energy in this place is unique. You can see the whole Bolivian cordillera real (that loooong stipe of mountains you only can see in pictures) and experience one of the most unique sunsets ever. Altitude is strong, but they give you a nice mate to feel OK.
Bolivia is probably one of the most diverse culinary capitals in the world, no kidding. Here is a list of restaurants you might want to try while you are here:
· Phayawi – Traditional Bolivian food (Eli’s sister owns it) $$
· Tinto – If what you are looking for is an excellent piece of meat and wine, this is it! $$
· Ludo – French food amazing $$
· Gustu – modern food (Claus Meyer’s restaurant) $$$
· Flor de Leche – This is all about CHEESE $$
· Popular Cocina Boliviana – Modern Fusion Bolivian food $$
· Taqueria Monterrey – one of our best friends opened this after 9 years in Mexico (street food ) $
