Our Story

Our Love Story

I (Beth) never expected to meet such and incredible guy like Devon nor did I think it would happen in the time frame that it did. But I fully believe that the Lord’s hand was on all of it and for that I am so grateful.

I had known who Devon was through my close friends the Henderson family but I didn’t know much about him. Devon was on his way home from a wedding with the Henderson’s when I was texting my friend Rachel. My name was then brought up in the car and Rachel’s Mom Jaime told Devon she thought we could be a perfect match. So Devon did what all guys do in that situation and reached out to me on Instagram. At this time I was not interested in dating anyone because I had recently gotten out of a relationship. But after hearing so many good things about Devon from the Henderson’s I thought I would be kind and respond to his message.

After that we began talking back and forth
and getting to know each other. I remember thinking that he was so kind and so nice and treated me like no guys ever has. But I was very cautious and guarded. We would hangout at a friends house and went to church together (he even asked if he could sit next to me in church before he did!). After getting to know him I was so certain that I wanted to date him. He had all the qualities I had prayed for in a man and I was constantly blown away by his character and love for his daughter. Even though I didn’t want to enter into a relationship, my heart and mind changed and I couldn’t wait any longer to date him. Devon and I talked for about 3 months and then started dating on December 2, 2017. I am so thankful that Devon was patient and waited until I was ready to be in a relationship. He gave me the time I needed to heal but continued to pursue me and get to know me. He’s such a great guy!!!

The Proposal
Devon and I usually go on date nights on Tuesday nights so I wasn’t expecting a proposal to happen. I thought Bella was going to be with us that night and I told her she could pick the restaurant. However, when Devon arrived at my house to pick me up Bella wasn’t with him. He said she wanted to go to bible study with his Aunt and Uncle. I thought that was odd and secretly thought to myself “is he going to propose?!” The whole car ride to the restaurant Devon seemed off. He seemed nervous and really happy.
He took me to a very fancy restaurant called Mark’s Prime Steakhouse and Seafood. The service was as amazing as the food. I kept waiting for a proposal but nothing happened. When we left the restaurant I asked him what was next and he said he needed to stop at the store to get soap. Not exactly what I was hoping for. But little did I know the reason that we had to stop at the store was to stall because our friends and the couple I live with, Cat and Isaac Johnson, were decorating the house for the proposal.

When we got to my house after the store I expected to just say goodbye but Devon said he wanted to come inside and talk to Isaac for a minute. When I opened the front door I was shocked to find a trail of rose petals lined with tea light candles leading to the back door of the house. At that moment I knew he was going to ask to marry me and was freaking out inside. However, I didn’t say a word I just followed the trail. When we got to the back door I opened it and saw more candles lit, a blanket with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and pictures of us hanging up. I just stood there not knowing what to do with myself. Devon reached down and opened a box that the ring was in, got down on one knee, and asked if I would marry him. I said yes without hesitation! And then we shared our first kiss (it was worth the wait!). I think I actually said to him “are you going to kiss me now.” After that Cat and Isaac jumped out and congratulated us. Since then I still can’t stop looking at my hand.

The Future
We get married November 3rd and are looking into buying a house in Ocala, FL. Please be in prayer for us as we try to navigate our way through being first time home buyers. Devon will continue being a Plumber and I will continue being a K-5 Teacher Assistant. His precious daughter will be with us every other week. We couldn’t be more excited to start our lives together!!! Thank you for being a part of our lives.
