In 2017 Elizabeth and Kyle joined the 21st Century and decided to give online dating a shot. At the time, Elizabeth had just graduated with her Masters Degree from Fresno State. She was in Columbus for the summer and had planned to move to Columbus, but a job opportunity in her hometown of Bakersfield, California would have her return to California at summers end. Meanwhile, Kyle had moved out to Michigan from his hometown of Muskego, Wisconsin, a few years earlier for work. Each of them had set their dating profiles to a wide geographical area and Kyle happened to come across Elizabeth's picture. After seeing such a cute girl (Kyle's words), Kyle decided he would check out her profile. Elizabeth put just enough in her profile to give Kyle something to ask about. After about two weeks of messages back and forth that eventually got to be novels, Kyle called Elizabeth to ask to meet for a date. She said yes. Their first date, they spent in downtown Columbus. During the date, they stopped at a little bench in downtown Columbus and talked for hours.
After a few dates, it came time for Elizabeth to move back out to Bakersfield to start her first job in the classroom after graduation! And thus began four years of FaceTiming, monthly handwritten notes, and infrequent trips to visit one another. In the fall of 2018 Kyle moved back to Wisconsin to start law school at Marquette University. And then in 2019, Elizabeth accepted a teaching position at the Ohio School for the Deaf and moved back to Columbus.
Just about three years after Kyle sent the first message to Elizabeth, they went to "their bench" where they spent hours on their first date, and had visited with each trip to Columbus, there Kyle got down on one knee, and asked Elizabeth to marry him. She said yes!
