Several national and regional airlines fly into T.F. Green in Warwick, RI, 30 miles northwest of Newport. You would need to drive to Newport from Warwick. Newport has a small airport for chartered flights and private planes.
Alternatively, you can fly into Boston, MA or New York City and travel by car from there.

From the west or New York City, take I-95 to US Route 1 to RI Route 138 east. Quaint historic villages of Washington County will give way to pastoral farmland and the first of two bridges before crossing the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge and arriving in Newport.
From the east, or north from Boston make your way to I-195 and plot a route to Route 24 south and follow signs to Route 138 south until you reach downtown Newport.
You can find lots of different places to park here.
Once you are in Newport, you do not need a car. The city is very walkable or Lyft/Uber is readily available.
