Flight Information

Fly into Xoxocotlán International Airport (OAX)

Direct flights to Oaxaca from the United States are only available from Los Angeles, Houston, and Dallas. Most flights will connect through Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City (MEX), so please allow extra time for customs and passport control there. The flight from Mexico City to Oaxaca lasts about an hour.

Upon arrival, you can easily grab a taxi to take you to the city center. Please note Uber is not available in Oaxaca. The drive from OAX to downtown Oaxaca lasts about 20 minutes. You won't need a car if you plan to stay within the city; it's a very walkable area once you're in the city center!

Taxi Instructions

Once you leave the baggage claim area, you will enter a large room with rental car services and a few small restaurants. Look for the booth labeled "TAXI".

If you're staying in the city center, ask for a ticket to "el centro". It should be about 115 Mexican Pesos (about $6.50) per person. You can use a credit card.

Once you have your ticket, follow the exit sign to exit the building. You will take a right out of the door and cross a street. As you cross, you'll see men waiting outside of white vans. Show one of these men your tickets, and they will direct you to the correct taxi.

Once you're at the taxi you've been directed to, the driver will take your tickets and ask for the address of your hotel/Airbnb. You'll get in the taxi and wait for it to be full (these are group taxis, so you will be riding with other people). The driver will leave when the taxi is full enough, and he will drop everyone off at their location. It's a very enjoyable experience if you're up for a little adventure!
