Liz and Andrew met while pursuing their Master's Degrees in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Roosevelt University in Chicago where Liz was one year ahead of Andrew. Liz was immediately attracted to Andrew's intellect and the fact that he swore a lot in class, and Andrew was really into Liz's boots. The two remained casual friends throughout Liz's last year in the program and did not really become close until after Liz had finished the program.

On their first date they drank adult dreamsicles (orange soda and whipped cream vodka) while sitting in camping chairs in Andrew's studio apartment. Liz knew then that Andrew was the one for her.

Andrew proposed to Liz in June of 2013 over dinner at Cucina Paradiso in Oak Park, Illinois. He kindly waited until after she had finished eating as he had been advised that she would be too excited to eat anything after the proposal. They had talked extensively about getting married before that day but Andrew surprised Liz with a lovely and intimate moment that she was happy to share with the 20 other people in the restaurant.

Liz and Andrew currently live in Berwyn with their two rescue cats, Beef and Butch. Liz cooks and makes martinis, Andrew does the dishes and makes the coffee. They are happy.
