We started as many these days do... by swiping right.
After matching in August 2021, we met for our first date at Scott's Grill and Pizzeria in Vanderhoof, BC. The next time we saw each other was for Randall's 25th birthday, where this time we met each other at Canadian Brewhouse in Prince George. Over the next year there were many dates that involved a 1.5 hour drive. You could say we were pretty committed from the beginning.
Despite the mid-distance (neither of us would describe it as a long distance relationship), over the next year we experienced many of life's ups and downs together; Elizabeth graduating university, every one of Randall's completed construction projects, the uncertainty of the job market and eventually landing a 'big-girl' job, and Randall purchasing what is now our home together.
In 2023, we travelled to Cancun, Mexico on our first international trip together. We skied, camped, and paddle-boarded. We experienced losses that taught us how best to lean on and support one another. We had the opportunity to travel to the Philippines together, and found our favourite vacation destination. Elizabeth finally admitted that she lived with Randall and officially moved in. And we adopted our wonderful baby corgi, Winnifred. There were many moments of quiet calm, and equally, moments of jam-packed craziness, but there is not another person we could imagine doing it all with.
On Thursday December 14, 2023 we had plans to go to see the Christmas lights at Northern Lights Estate Winery with our friends.
We arrived at the winery, bought hot chocolate, and wandered around the displays. (I didn't even realize the other girls were running around trying to find the best place for the proposal to happen! LOL thanks guys! -Elizabeth)
Randall asked if we should take a family picture and as we were posing he asked "are you ready?", then he was getting down on one knee.
Some tears, a lot of laughter, and a resounding 'YES' later, the champagne bottle was being popped and we were engaged!
A huge thank you to Sally and Jacy for keeping the secret, and for making sure our moment was captured ♥
