Our Story

Patrick and Ellen

Ellen Bates Hogan was born and raised by Lynne Ross Hogan, Michael Jerome Hogan Jr and Mary Anne Hogan on November 15, 1992. She attended Saint Vincent's Academy for high school and in May of 2015 Ellen Bates graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelors in Logistics, a Bachelors in Marketing and an emphasis in Sales.

John "Patrick" Ebberwein II was born to Stephanie Leigh and John Patrick Ebberwein on December 13 1992. He attended Benedictine Military School for high school and after attending Georgia Southern University he was called to work on the river for the River Pilots Association of Savannah.

Family History

George A. Ebberwein was born in Savannah, Ga, October 31, 1893. Anne McCormick Dowling was born in Atlanta, Ga., September 12, 1897, and moved to Savannah in 1899 at 2 years old.

George and Anne were married at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah on February 19, 1926. In 1930, they moved to Jersey City, New Jersey and George went to work as an Engineer at The Brooklyn Navy Yard. In New Jersey, they lived at 257 Jewett Ave, next door to The Joseph Keeshen family. Anne and George had four children; Anne, George, Joseph, and Mary Ellen.

The third child Joseph, was due to be born on Christmas Day, 1935, but arrived pre-mature on Oct. 27 th . Not expected to live, he was baptized in the Hospital. His Godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph KEESHEN. Other Savannians living in Jersey City, were George Morrissey, who married Mary MCALPIN. Mary had a brother named John, who was a Merchant Seaman. When his ship would come in to New York he would come visit the MORRISSEY'S and the EBBERWEIN'S.

On one of his visits, they introduced him to Kay KEESHEN. To make a long story short, they eventually married and moved back to Savannah. They had two children; Jay and Ellen. Ellen married Jerry HOGAN Sr. They had three children; Joseph, Mary Katherine and Jerry Jr. Jerry Jr. had two, children; Ellen Bates and Ross. Ellen, one of the great grandchildren of Kay KEESHEN McAlpin.

Anne and George Ebberwein moved back to Savannah. Their son, Joseph, married Frances Haviland and had 5 children; Joseph, Suzanne, Jane, John and Chris. John married Leigh Horton and had 7 children. Their oldest, Patrick, is engaged to Ellen Bates Hogan.

The wedding will be performed on July 15, 2017, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, where the story began.
