Elsie and Ryan’s story began in junior high when they briefly dated, but life took them in different directions – until the summer after their sophomore year. Bonfires and pool days brought them back together, with Elsie working as a lifeguard and Ryan finding more reasons to be around. One night, after the last bonfire of the summer, Ryan gave Elsie a ride home. The more time they spent together, the clearer it became – those old feelings never really left.

As the weeks went by, they continued spending time together, both at school and beyond. On September 23rd, 2015, Ryan officially asked Elsie to be his girlfriend. They like to say they owe it all to their friends – without them, the two might have missed their second chance.

After high school, Elsie and Ryan moved to Grand Forks for college, supporting each other through every new chapter. No matter where life led, being together always felt like home. After five years of dating, they moved into their first apartment with their three dogs – Bobo, Elie, and Hailey. Not long after, they settled into the house they now call home.

Through every high and low, they’ve stood by each other’s side – through loss, love, and everything in between. One frosty October day, Ryan proposed under the apple tree in their backyard, with their dogs dressed in Halloween costumes. Elsie said yes, and they’ve been writing the next part of their story ever since.
