Emilee went out for some drinks with her friend Brenda and Brenda's boyfriend, Kyle, one night. After a few drinks, Kyle assured Emilee he had a "cool" friend that would bring frozen yogurt. Emilee told Kyle that his friend should bring some cake batter frozen yogurt. An hour or so later, a "manbunned," bearded guy walks into the bar with only one bowl of cake batter frozen yogurt with the "special fro-yo spoon." Emilee was ecstatic and ate the entire bowl. They didn't talk much more that night, but Justin told Brenda and Kyle "I'm going to date that girl."
While Emilee and Justin bumped into each other occasionally at friend get-togethers, they had never exchanged phone numbers or even became Facebook friends! In August, 2016, Emilee stopped by Brenda's house to meet for lunch. Brenda was excited to show Emilee her new living space and wanted to show her "the boys" lower half of the duplex where the "manbunned" man and other friend lived. Brenda knocked on the lower unit's door and Justin answered the door without a shirt on, in a rather grumpy mood. The girls asked to see the place, but Justin said "I'm tired and I'm still unpacking." Brenda and Emilee snuck a quick tour through the lower unit and left for their lunch date.
(Justin felt the Fabio image represented how he looked on this day.)
A few days after Brenda and Emilee's lunch date, Justin "officially" asked Emilee out on a "real" date. Emilee got ready at home and needed approval for her hair and outfit from her baby sister, Mady. Justin was looking good pulling up in his black corvette. Justin took Emilee to bayshore where they had dinner at Sprecher's Restaurant and Pub, followed by seeing "Suicide Squad" on the big screen. They both had a great time, not yet realizing this is the "last-first date" they will ever go on!
Justin had a unique idea planned for their second date, but it did not turn out how he had expected. It was a Thursday and Justin had planned a romantic night of jazz music, wine, and conversation at Jazz in the Park at Cathedral Square. Earlier that day, Justin was repairing counters at Yo Factory, where he did not wear safety goggles and got wood slivers in his eye. Justin debated on canceling the date, but decided he could make it through. When they got downtown, Justin wouldn't take his sunglasses off and explained to Emilee how he hurt his eye. Justin kept his sunglasses on the entire date, even after the sun went down, his eye constantly tearing, and eventually drank the entire box of wine he had packed for their date. Emilee had to work night shift in the Emergency Department that night, so she became the designated driver. After a few hours, Emilee dropped Justin off back at his apartment, where she found out later in their relationship, he was so drunk he didn't even make it to his room and passed out on the living room floor. At this point, Justin thought he ruined his chances at continuing this relationship.
Justin and Emilee spent almost every day together, even if it was just for a few hours. They had many great adventures together from Nashville to Florida, snowboarding to water tubing and the boat dying in the middle of the lake, late night parties and early mornings, Justin and Emilee both were falling for each other fast.
June 1, 2017, became a date to always remember. Justin told Emilee it was the first day for Jazz in the Park and he thought it would be fun to try "round two" at this date. Justin got home from work, packed a backpack with what Emilee thought was just filled with bedsheets and such and they headed downtown. Justin bought a bottle of wine and some snacks and they set up the sheet on the grass. Justin pulled out a cardboard box filled with puzzle pieces. Emilee loves doing puzzles, but questioned Justin's judgement on doing a puzzle on the grass since the pieces wouldn't fit together correctly. But, nonetheless, Emilee said okay and started working on the puzzle. Emilee began to realize the puzzle was "homemade" and all the pieces looked extremely similar, including about 24 corner pieces since it was made up of 6 small rectangle puzzles arranged into a larger rectangle. After working on the puzzle for an hour or two and the sun setting, Emilee had only discovered a few random letters... W, E, and a few more. Justin started asking Emilee what the puzzle could possibly say. Emilee was so confused and overwhelmed she didn't know what to say. After attempts of asking Emilee to guess and not getting a response, Justin pulled out a gorgeous diamond ring and asked Emilee to marry him!
After over a year of being engaged, Emilee and Justin will become Mr. and Mrs. on September 15, 2018!
