Some stories may start with love at first sight. This one begins with friendship, laughter, and a healthy dose of surprise. For Michael and Emilia, it all started on September 4th, 2021, at a pop-punk concert called Sad Summer Fest.

Now, here’s the wild part: Emmy didn’t listen to pop-punk. At all. She could barely name a single band in the lineup, but somehow she found herself surrounded by ripped jeans, Vans, and loud guitars. It was a world that couldn’t have been further from her playlists, yet fate clearly had other plans. Because somewhere in the mosh-pitting crowd, she met Michael.

They hit it off instantly. What followed was a friendship that could only be described as an ongoing Maine adventure. They explored local restaurants, went apple picking, tested out new bars, conquered escape rooms and made it their unofficial mission to find the best spots in the state and spend every waking moment, outside of work, together. Every outing came with laughter, easy conversation, and the feeling that maybe this relationship was something special.

At the time, Michael was serving in the Navy, and was set to leave Maine in October 2021. By December 2021, he was stationed in Hawaii, thousands of miles away from Maine. The distance wasn’t ideal, but both of them knew that whatever they had was worth holding onto. So, they got creative.

They started a shared note on their phones where they’d write to each other whenever Michael was away and couldn’t communicate for weeks or months. It became their digital diary, full of stories, jokes, and little reminders that they were thinking of each other. When they finally did get to talk, their FaceTime calls would last for hours, both of them happily losing sleep just to talk.

During one of those late-night talks, Michael mentioned that he had never been on a real vacation. Emilia, half-joking and half-hopeful, told him they should take one together. To her surprise, Michael said yes. Within weeks, they had a full-blown Disney trip planned for Christmas and New Year’s.

Before that trip, on December 3rd/4th, (depending on which time zone you ask), they officially started dating. The Disney trip was magical in every sense of the word. Between the fireworks, the churros, and the late-night laughter, they knew they had something real.

After a year of long-distance dating, Emmy took a leap of faith and moved to Hawaii to be with Mike. Their first apartment was a 400-square-foot shoebox with no AC but plenty of love and big dreams. Somehow, they made it work, proving that home isn’t a place, it’s a person (or in this case, two people and a small army of box fans).

Since then, life has been full of adventures. They’ve traveled to Florida, Hawaii, Boston, South Carolina, and Maine, attended concerts like All Time Low, Sabrina Carpenter, and the Maximum Fun Tour, and are already plotting how to get Ariana Grande tickets next!

These days, they’re settled in New Hampshire with their two cats, Jojo and Toulouse, who basically run the household. Michael patiently teaches Emilia how to play video games, cheering her on every time she forgets a button. Emilia reads his horoscope, insists he pull a tarot card, and somehow always convinces him it’s accurate.

Together, they’ve built a life that feels equal parts cozy, chaotic, and full of laughter. From pop-punk concerts to cross-country moves, they’ve proven that sometimes the best things in life happen when you least expect them.

And now, after four years of love, adventures, and endless inside jokes, they can’t wait to say “I do” and start the next chapter of their story. Side by side, exactly where they’re meant to be.
